Mynock Squadron XXII: Firespray and Pray

By Rytackle, in X-Wing

With the offseason doldrums signaling the end of competitive rigor, the Mynock Squadron Podcast goes back to its roots.

We’ll be recapping Regionals, Opens, and Nationals in the nearish future, but Mynock Squadron’s campaign is done until Worlds. So we bring back some of our older segments to get back to basics.

-Dee discusses how genius he looks when he Flies Miranda Better, and how stupid he feels when she explodes off of a single poor SLAM or failure to SLAM.

-Texx helps us stay on the board.

-Ryan tries to not be invisible to the masses.

-Also, Imperial Firespray SHIP SPOTLIGHT!

Good show. I was confused at the end when Dallas talks about the maneuver template being able to go off the board. I thought that if the template goes off the board you are also destroyed.

Nope! Just final ship position matters.

On topic: I keep almost putting Krassis with Kallus in a list, passively double-modified attacks seem too good to give up. I don't know the right gear on him, though. The price escalates so quickly. HLC is great, but pricey, and has a pretty limited area that it will actually affect (range 2-3 front, only). I think there's a few other things that can help him, though. You take Slave 1 and Long Range Sensors for free. That's 36 for Krassis, 7 for HLC, and 2 for Kallus. 45 points. You guys already mentioned going into combat with a mini-reroll, mini-focus, and having an action free for the Evade. The Target Lock you take turn one from Long Range Sensors is something you hopefully don't need on the first turn, as you get Krassis' re-roll, so you save it until you pass by your target to get the re-roll on your rear arc shot.

I wonder if the real utility in the current meta is the bomb slot. Imperials have decent bombing options, but he Spray is tough and jousty as well. It can go head-to-head with some jousters, then use the bomb on aces. You could downgrade from Krassis to a Bounty Hunter to free up some points, perhaps. If you don't need the PS or the re-roll out the front, you could get by.

Bounty Hunter 33, Kallus 2, Slave 1 0, Long Range Sensors 0, Concussion Missiles 4, Extra Munitions 2, Connor Net 4 = 45

You take a Target Lock early, send off the missiles on the first pass, then you're fighting in close with range 1 primary weapons and/or your bomb/mine. Maybe you keep it cheaper and drop the missiles, which would leave you at 41 points. That's enough for Omega Leader (26), the Inquisitor (31), and a 2 point initiative bid. That adds some beef that can joust and also limit the freedom of PS9 aces.

This segment should be called "Just the tips".

Maybe Krassis w/Kallus + Slave 1 + Extra Munitions + Guidance Chips + Missile and Bomb of your choice?

He does start to get kind of pricey though.

I like Concussion Missile + Extra Munitions over HLC on Krassis, give or take Guidance Chimps. Two punchier attacks for a point less.

I could feel the passive aggressiveness just oozing through the microphone hearing _Dee Young_ say it's ok I forgot his name. Not like any other pod casters gave you guys a plug but whatever don't mention that or anything :D .

As for the Vassal collisions they seem difficult at first but the more you do them the easier and quicker they get, most opponents are usually fine to do it for you if you ask them anyway. I'd bet I'm in the minority but I've actually found I prefer Vassal as it usually goes more quickly than a standard game and you don't get all those little accidental nudges and bumps you do in a table match.

I love, love, love Alex! I gotta admit, I enjoy grapes, but I will never forget that he was the first podcast host to plug us when we first kicked up!

And it's aggressive aggressiveness, if I'm being facetiously passive! I do honestly look up to you, but I'm gonna have Eric write DEE YUN on you with a Sharpie when you sleep so you'll remember :D

This is what happens when you miss a podcast and Sozin becomes drunk with power... Ah well, your Mynock heads mounted as trophies will look great in our ship's commissary.
