FFG seriously the h*

h* = hasterisk

First World Problems.

I don't get it. This seems like a new Asmodee thing because as far as I can remember, FFG never used to have release dates but used to let stores sell it when they got it. I've never considered it a big issue because I knew I'd get my ships when they were ready. Maybe it's before others, maybe after. But this was a common conversation for the LCG and the consensus was that FFG would rather get it to players as soon as possible by not setting release dates and just letting stores sell product as they obtained it. I'm surprised to hear that has changed.

I think it is also that FFG is at the point were it has to act like a big boy company. The company is much larger, in terms of how much they sell, now than back when they were more loose with release dates. They are now at a point where release dates matter for their major games.

What does h* mean?

Computer interfaces
  • In some command line interfaces , such as the Unix shell and Microsoft 's CMD , the asterisk is the wildcard character and stands for any string of characters . This is also known as a wildcard symbol. A common use of the wildcard is in searching for files on a computer. For instance, if a user wished to find a document called Document 1, search terms such as Doc* and D*ment* would return this file. Document* would also return any file that begins with Document.

It could also be a regexp meaning zero or more "h"s.

H to the Hizzo.

Wait, how did sports talk about the Twins season get into my nerd forums?

What the Han?

Doesn't a single '*' tend to indicate a single censored character (I mean, in passwords, the number of '*'s matches the number of characters). So, the possibilities are:

Ha

He

Hi

Hm

Ho

Hu

Hy?

Did I miss any?

I think it's so that certain retailers don't get an advantage over other retailers because they happened to get them first.

If Amazon for example, got their Veterans early and were allowed to sell them early the all of the FLGS's would be screwed.

kinda.

The question mark (?) is the standard, single character wildcard. An asterisk represents multiple characters.

Except that's what's already happened.

Some people in Quebec,Canada got their Imperial Veterans yesterday by ordering from the UK last week.

In text matching, yes, but I figured he was censoring or masking characters, which tends to be a bit more 1-to-1.

I will confess, though, being more used to working in SQL, my first thought for a wildcard is '%', not '*', so I'm probably a bit biased. XD

(Maybe he actually meant a pointer and mistyped the '*' on the wrong side of the variable?)

I've never seen ? used as a wildcard. If I saw 'h?' I'd think it meant zero to one instances of h.

Why is FFG at fault for a store selling it too early? Why not just patiently wait for the scheduled release date like everyone else before making assumptions?

Patience? I'm a Sithlord. We act on Rage.

Sithlord? Ha!

Looks to me that you are merely an annoying protocol droid that has a programming error and thus has delusions of being a Sith.

I think its time you get memory wiped and start all over.

It's an old school DOS/Unix command line wildcard. Readers who remember H.R. Puffnstuf, for example, are more likely to remember these old timey wild cards. ;)

"h" for president
