Worth to get from the older editions?

By bladerunner_35, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Hello.

While I've been getting my fix from Games Workshop for a long, long time I have yet to get into the Warhammer side of things (I've mainly kept to the sci-fi part of the setting). With the new fantasy roleplay edition out I decided to get it, half by chance and half by a spurr of the moment kind of thing.

Anyways, I know there's a wealth of....well "stuff" for the earlier editions as well as novels and what not and were hoping that a few die hard warhammer fantasy fans could give me some pointers to the good stuff. Essentially I am looking for the creme de la creme of the old editions. Mainly adventures and campaigns but sourcebooks and what not works as well. I have never played let alone read the older editions so keep that in mind regarding any glaring discrepancies between them.

Thank you in advance,

For what its worth i would get all the old stuff...

research enemy within campaign and doom stones campaign..

I have back up copies of the enemy within if any good im sure we could come to some arrangement...

Doomstones isn't really that good (IMO), but TEW despite a few shortcomings is just made of awesome with a side order of win. Get it. Now. Other than that, the 1ed books I'd recommend are Warhammer City (Middenheim sourcebook), Dwarfs: Stone & Steel (YMMV, but I've always liked its depiction of the Dwarfs) and Marienburg: Sold Down the River (possibly the single best supplement for WFRP ever printed; again IMO).

As for 2ed, get the Tome of Corruption and Tome of Salvation before anything else. I'd say most of the books from that edition are worth getting, the only exceptions being Karak Azgal and possibly Lure of the Liche Lord and Renegade Crowns, though if you're planning on situating your campaign in the Border Princes, they may come in handy.

Get all issues of the Warpstone Magazine you can get ahold of, those are pure gold.

Remember, some of those books can fetch a pretty heavy price tag, due to being OOP and still in pretty big demand on the secondary market. Don't even think about buying them "used or new" from Amazon, try waiting for a bargain on eBay instead.

From second edition, I highly recommend Tome of Corruption, Tome of Salvation as just **** good books, the Paths of the Damned series as a good source of information on the cities of the Empire (and pretty easy to convert to the new edition if you're so inclined), and the Children of the Horned Rat book because Skaven are awesome

WFRP1: Warhammer City (Middenheim sourcebook) and Marienburg: Sold Down the River and The Enemy Within naturally

WFRP2: Tome of Chaos and Children of the Horned Rat (Tome of Salvation didn't do much for me and there already is a lot of information in the Tome of Blessing)

And don't forget Warpstone magazine!

From v1; the entire Enemy Within Campaign is the gold standard, particularly from Mistaken Identity/Shadows over Bogenhafen through to Power Behind the Throne.

The v2 sourcebooks that I got the most mileage out of are Tome of Corruption, Realms of Sorcery, and to a lesser extent the Old World Bestiary.

All of the above mentioned and get Sigmar's Heirs and Knights of the Grail as well, SH is maybe a little useless because it depicts the Empire after the SoC and so much changed, but KotG is a greatsourcebook and Bretonnia didn't suffer much so its still morstly valid information in it.
