Best Place To Buy X-wing Ships

By AwesomeJedi, in X-Wing

Like anyone else who understands the importance of supporting the LGS, the lion's share of my gaming money finds its way into the assorted tills of those few LGS where I live.

Yet I am not a purist. Sometimes an online sale prompts me, because of the savings, to purchase one or more ships that I would have otherwise passed on. For example, I would never have purchased my Corvette or Raider if I had to pay what the LGS was asking for them. I just have a lot of guilt pulling the trigger on single-ship purchases that run more than an hundred bucks. I overlooked the Corvette for that reason for many months, but when the Raider came out, an online store had both it and the for sale for less than half the price demanded by any of my LGS, I was able to talk myself into the purchase.

My motto is I am willing to pay 10% more to buy local - which I do for most of my purchases, but I make no promises when a large online saving will put ships in my fleet that I would otherwise have passed on.

My LGS is way cheaper than Amazon. Also have an online store (that frequently organizes tournaments, more frequently than the LGS, guess who gets more of my money) that is on par or sometimes even better when they do sales.

Really depends on where you live. Consider many possibilties.

majority of the time i only buy at my flgs because otherwise where the hell will i play lol. My dinky 600sq foot apartment? LAWL

Only things i havnt bought there are things they dont offer (i.e. Forgeworld for 40k) or i get a very big discount somewhere on something rather expensive (Tau Stormsurge...got it for 100 instead of 150 lol). I made 1 purchase for xwing outside of my flgs and that was the online deal coolstuffinc.com was doing a few weeks ago, which was the salepoint for me getting into rebels instead of just 1-3 ships for the cards lol

Even if i had a place big enough i'd rather goto a public place. Theres numerous people i dont know that play and show up every wednesday so i literally just show up and play with whoever is open. When its a private place, its heavily limited and prone to pre-planning only.

For 40k i'd prefer that since 40k is such a massive game you dont play it with random people anyway. When i move and get a decent place im totally making a table for 40k lol

I used book depository to get into the game...

Holy crap, they do X-Wing? Very nice tip!

Your local game store. That is, of course, presuming you have one. I know not everyone does. Consider the extra cost (also, you don't have to pay shipping!) to be a premium you pay to keep their doors open so you have a place to play.

If you must resort to online retailers, CoolStuff and Miniatures Market would also be my first choices.

Oddly enough CoolStuff is one of my local game stores and I have gone there to play games.

Yeah, a lot of brick and mortars are hybrid businesses now. They have an online presence in order to be competitive. My LGS (atomicempire.com) has a warehouse in the back that they run their internet stuff out of.

I've decided to only purchase from my FLGS . I've made such a sacrifice for my wallet because they support my local community and deserve some support back. You all should do the same, or shame on you. In fact you too can support my FLGS.

There called coolstuffinc, look em up.

Nigerian X-wing exchange market..

my local store is GauntletGames and i dont think they do any online stuff other than simply have a website for the hell of it.

Probably the only reason theyre able to stay open is because the owners are great and the only real competition they have is a place called Hobbytown...which has a really bad rep for things vanishing and they are more of a hobby store than a game store (radio cars, crafts, etc) anyway.

Xwing alone, theres about 30 of us in the area that are active at this store. 40k is kinda dying down, i think theres 6 of us left that still play and even im getting to the point where i just want to put my Tau on a shelf and leave them there. Warmahordes is kinda going away, though i still see it once in awhile. Warzone Resurrection died off hardcore after they released another FAQ that pissed ALL of us off (particularly me since i play Imperials (British people) and they REALLY f'd me over). Flames of War, Malifaux, Dreadball, and Guild Ball are pretty common though...never played them though.

tldr they have a LOT of people that come there regularly so thats probably why they can stay open. I have probably spent upwards of 3000 there in the past 3 years between 40k, WZR, Xwing, and Armada lol.

Only casual discount they offer is after $100 worth of purchases you can get 10% off your next purchase. Done that many times lol...when i got my 2 Huge Ships and the Decimator that saved me quite a bit.

My support goes to CoolStuff, but I have no LGS. I play at home, on my kitchen table, so saving a reasonable amount on minis through online orders is a means of supporting where I play.

I did buy from the store running the last event I went to, of course. They had good prices, and some ships I wanted and hadn't bought yet. Phantoms, Inquisitor, plus a copy of Rebellion.

I called the LGS that I've purchased most of my X-Wing stuff from. He didn't know if there was something out or when he would get it, he'll call and ask his distributor. CoolStuff is looking better and better.

I just realized this may be due to Imperial Veterans not being available yet :(
