Secrecy Bilbo, Frodo and Gandalf "ally"

By Thorsen, in Strategy and deck-building

Hi everyone!

I do not write very often on this forum but I follow it a lot. This is a deck that I use often in solitary. I love Hobbits and I wanted to include my favorite character, Bilbo. I also wanted to create a deck that exploited the powerful Gandalf in his "Over hill and Under hill" version remaining low threat. I know this is not a powerdeck but I still beat most of the quests, even nightmere version. I could not even beat "Escape from Dol Gudur" but I went very close and it is quite difficult to deal with the adventures that begin right away with enemies engaged and furious fighting. Unexpectedly, however, you can win quests based on sieges and battles and I also manage to fight the "nightmere Balrog" with success (this deck is very powerful against large solitary enemies).

I closed a lot of games with less threat than I had at the beginning.

The strategy is simple; having Gandalf in play as soon as possible. In any case you may draw two cards each turn and you start the game in Secrecy; if Gandalf does not show faster keep the cold blood and low threat; I prefer a starting hand with Resourceful and without Gandalf. Each Tracker and Ithilien Lookout has attack two; Quickbeam has three and Treebeard has four (and he can help to pay Gandalf, Gandalf's Staff, Shadowfax, Resourceful, Song of Travel and Hobbit Sense).

When Gandalf get his Staff, some Resourceful is in play and Treebeard is on the table you have a lot of Resources and a good Questing/Fighting power.

Using wisely Out of Sight and coordinating attacks you can kill the most powerful enemies in a single shot.

When Gandalf comes into play your threat will rise rapidly; but you can keep it under controll by playing Galadrim's Greeting and Elrond Counsel and recycling them with Dwarven Tomb.

Some suggestion?

Treebeard has four (and he can help to pay Gandalf, Gandalf's Staff, Shadowfax, Resourceful, Song of Travel and Hobbit Sense).

This is not true. Treebeard's resources can only be used to pay for Ent cards and his ability to ready Ents.

He's right. You must pay resources from HEROES, and Treebeard is an ally. :)

Auch! my fault!

just to know; his resource is not a normal (not colored) resource?

More to the point, Treebeard (Ally) specifically states that his resources can only be used to pay for Ents.

It is not. It has no type because Treebeard (Ally) has no sphere icon.

Ok. The thing that has misled me is that it does not say "only"; the text actually is: "Treebeard enter play exhausted and collect 1 resource each resource phase. These resource can be used to pay Ent cards played from your hand."

I had thought that its resources were generic (no color) but that could be spent in order to play neutral cards and Ent of any color. But rereading the rules it says that only Heroes can spend resources to play cards from hand then you are right.

in light of these new facts I should probably add a couple of Ent to this deck; some advice?

You don't have to add more Ents to the deck, you can just use Treebeard's resources for the other effect to ready Ents, most likely himself.

yes true; but what you think about the deck generally? Can you suggest some improvement?

I made this changes: i leave a song of travel and a Barlima Butterbur in favour of two word of comman.

i just beat The Hunt for Gollum and the Hills of Emyn Muil nightmare, 157 and 195 points.

some suggestion?
