Getting back into X-Wing and I have a few questions

By Etaywah, in X-Wing

Hello!

I'll get right down to it: Getting back into x-wing and I need a bit of direction.

1. Currently I'm 60% empire, 30% scum, 10% rebel and want to up my rebel collection

  • What are some of the top ships for each faction right now?
  • Is there anything different stat-wise for the new force awakens x-wing that makes it worth buying?
  • Is there anything in the force awakens core-set that is now necessary, like I think I heard about there being a new damage deck, is the old one no longer tournament legal?
  • Are there any "must-have" sets that have come out? I am aware of the TIE upgrade in the punisher expansion and am planning on buying it.

2. Have there been any erratas?

3. Any ships I should probably stay away from/not worth the price just yet?

4. What do you recommend buying (less than $100) if I want to up my Rebel fleet? I currently have 1 original core set, 1 falcon, 1 moldy crow and that's it.

Thanks in advance!

when did you leave?

for erratas, we're looking at (since I've started playing):

Yt-2400 brought with it a change to how large ships barrel-roll (use the 1-foward template on its side)

The Phantom's decloak timing has changed to before maneuvers are performed, making it FAR less stupid

In tournaments, large ships that are damaged to half or below their starting health (rounded up, so falcon needs to take 7 damage) are worth half their points for determining m.o.v and who won. This makes fat turrets FAR less stupid, but not enough to make me happy to see them <_<

popular competitive meta is currently dominated by

1.) Palpatine (see Imperial Raider Expansion) in a PS 2 shuttle flying alongside a plethora of imperial aces, but most popularly The Inquisitor (see Inquisitor's Tie Expansion)

2.) Jumpmaster5000s with the Deadeye + torpedo + r4 aggro/overclocked + guidance chip combos, known as U-boats (think WW2) or, more simply, torpscouts (the PS 3 generic pilot is called "Contracted Scout")

3.) Howlrunner with five PS 4 Tie fighters all carrying the Crackshot pilot talent. Generally, two of the PS 4 Tie Fighters are upgraded to Tie/FOs because they're cool

rebels have been largely forced out of the competitive scene in this latest Wave (8), sandwiched as they are by hyper defensive aces and hyper offensive Jumpmasters and Tie Fighters. What counters aces (stress from r3-a2 or tactician + twin laser turrets) gets pasted by jumpmasters, and what pastes jumpmasters (lots of dice at fire pilot skill, particularly ordnance from z-95s) has a nearly impossible time against aces

ideally, blocking counters both archetypes (no defensive actions for aces, no focus for Jumpmasters to use deadeye to fire torpedoes with) which makes the humble prototype pilot A-wing really cool, but otherwise it's rough sailing for the rebellion overall. In this scenario, you can therefore buy whatever you feel like playing with

1) Imperial: Palpmobile (lambda shuttle with palpatine) and Ace of your pick (Vader, Soontir/Jax, Inquisitor, Omega Leader). On a super competitive level thats about it, on a fun level...anything really.

Scum: Punishing One (i.e. uboats). Far as i know thats the ONLY **** scum ship competitive players fly. I see their other ships a lot and theyre pretty good, but in big tournaments its all triple uboat spam cheese.

Rebel: Ghost is the new flavor right now. Rebels are probably the worst when it comes to lackluster ships right now but even then they have a lot of good ones...Ghost/Kwing being the main one people think about.

2) Linky if you look at the main page for xwing its down at the bottom under FAQ.

3) Scum Scyks is honestly the only ship that personally i would label a complete utter waste of time. I have even made the punisher work and thats a pretty **** close second to worst ship of all lol.

4) Less than 100 for rebels? Iffy. What you listed doesnt really help the Ghost that much, since standalone its not that amazing. Rebel aces, another Awing, and the T70 kit would be a good start. Rebels are really difficult to be competitive right now, only lists ive been able to come up with that work pretty well are using cards from like 10 expansions lol. And even then its not that great.

1a) One of the Top builds is running Emperor Palapatine on a Shuttle with 2 Aces. This can include Whisper, Soontir and the Inquisitor.

1b) The Boost, Talon Roll, and Integrated Astromech card make the T70 pretty formidable.

1c) New damage deck is not mandatory, but in general I like it better than the old one. More crits can be recovered from versus the old deck.

1d) Inquisitor's Tie includes Guidance chips, which makes munitions tons better. Punishing One includes a lot of key crew and cards, not to mention the ship itself. Glitterstim and Crackshot are amazing upgrades.

2) Go to the latest FAQ - many changes.

3) M3A Scyk pops easily - not generally used.

4) YT-2400 is a fun ship with Dash Rendar.

T70 X wing would be a must.

Y wings are good with the right upgrades. (Which you can proxy to experiment with.

Ghost has some really good stuff, but will take up some cash to get it.

To answer a few other questions, yes, the Xwing in the new set is completely different. It's a new model, new dial, stats, and pilots

Unless you want Corran Horn, I'd hold off on E-wings

Rebel Aces are nice, it gives you a B and A wing and some fun pilots

1b) The Boost, Talon Roll, and Integrated Astromech card make the T70 pretty formidable.

So there was no "fix" for Xwing in the new box? I just ask because I'd like to salvage the old x-wing from the original core, but from what I understand that ship still sucks?

The build that's Rebel great and fun (to me) is:

And my go-to with two X-Wings Like Biggs, Wedge, Walker, etc. is:

BroBots is still a fairly powerful list. I don't know if you've checked out the stats on the new TIE f/o fighters, but they are pretty fun to fly and have some interesting pilot abilities. Or you could wait and get Imperial Vets when it comes out in a few days. The new Defender titles are pretty awesome.
