Best Blockers?

By slowreflex, in X-Wing

Who do you think are the best blockers for each faction?

My assumptions are that you want low PS, though that could be through something like Enhanced Scopes. Then I'd imagine it's a trade off between having a large base and/or a good dial? Hard to kill? Turret? Obviously different pilots abilities an upgrades play into this as well.

Thoughts?

Low PS, flexible dial, ideally a Barrel Roll and ideally a large base.

Rebel: Wild Space Fringer

Scum: Contracted Scout

Imperial: Academy Pilot

Rebels:
A-Wing with Chardaan Refit
Wild Spacer with Intel Agent and APL

Scum:
Contracted Scout with Intimidation, Intel and APL

Binayre Pirate

Imperial:
Academy Pilot
(Maybe) Delta Sqd Defender.

I'd nominate the Sienar Test Pilot for the imperials. Has a great dial with both boost and barrel roll.

A good blocker should have a diverse dial (or contain 1 straight and banks) to easily block lanes. They should either be cheap or have enough firepower that they pose a serious threat and they should be PS 1 or 2.

No two blockers are the same and can be used differently. The A-wing is cheap, with a great dial, and is hard to hit. If it does not carry a missile, it does not pose a very big threat for the opposition. The Starviper and the Defender are both PS 1s, but are much more expensive. They make up for this with a unique dial (superior in the Starviper's case), and big offense and defense. Remember, the purpose of a blocker is not always to cause a ship to run into it, but to block lanes. Blockers force the fight were you want it to happen.

Listed by faction. (Best and runner-up)

The humble tie fighter is still king.

Just bring his friends along >:}

I say any epic ship.... just fly on through their fleet and see what happens :)

Best blocker? Hmmmmm. Raider.

Depends on what you mean/what you want. Raw blocking potential? Cheapest **** thing possible (academy tie fighter, awing w/ retrofit, blah blah) or something that can be a thorn not just a bump (black squad pilots with intimidation).

Ran a list with 2 black squad pilots with Intimidation and a beefed out Chiraneau that had Intel Agent. He'd scout a target, the TIEs would barrelroll in their way for intimidate and no action so chiraneau could hit hard. Really glorious if you can pull it off where hes touching BOTH Ties lol...yes thats possible and yes it stacks since nothing in this game doesnt stack unless the effect just doesnt do anything if it did stack.

Sigma Squadron Pilot (25)
Sensor Jammer (4)
Intelligence Agent (1)
Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Total: 34

Best in terms of capability, but also the most expensive. I love using these things.

Offense wins timed X-wing games :D

Whisper+VI+IA+FCS+ACD

2x Shadow+IA_FCS

It's a fast list. You know if you're going to win pretty quickly.

Scimitar Bomber with Shuttle Title, Intel Agent (and if you have the points Tactician or Mara Jade) is going to be a solid blocker.

Contracted Scout can be a hell of a blocker as well.

I've actually been running feedback on the scout instead of APL (dont generally have the points for booth). Sure it hurts me and gives me an ion token, but takes 2 ion tokens to actaully BE ioned, and it's guaranteed damage to the APL's 50% chance

high speeds and boost that can cover distances further than the range ruler are your "best" blockers, as often there's simply nothing your opponent can do about them

the humble prototype pilot, especially at its very modest price, or any large ship with EU or Leebo crew (yes THIS is what leebo is for, the once a game boost from beyond range 3 into blocks) is your "best" blocker

your second best blocker is the bumpmaster sans EU. It carries the very heavy risk of accomplishing jack **** for a hefty investment (imo 28 points minimum for PS 2 scout with int agent and feedback), but if you can fly it well enough to get it stuck in, it will wreck havoc on the opponent with proper barrel-rolling protocol Feedback array defines the ship. It has basically no offense, otherwise.

great ace killer, needs some fan-angling against torpedo scouts

and yes, you ALWAYS take feedback. Never mind the utter garbage 50% rng on APL, the fact that feedback is range 1 and not just on bump already makes it vastly more useful despite the self damage

best blockers, however, may soon be "Burst of Speed" illicit SLAM ships. It depends on how FFG **** it up like they did Cloaking Device, though

The new best blocker will be ketsu.

her ability and title let you block, remove an agility, barrel roll the enemy off you, fire at range one, and stick a second tractor token on the defender.

That's gonna hurt a lot of ships.
