Who is the Best late game Ace?

By Psalm 112, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I will be playing a hunger game style "tournament" at I think 50 squad points. Just wanted to know who the best option was. To get things going:

Boba Fett (imperial) with navigator,VI,Slave 1, extra munitions, homing missiles, guidance chips. Thought about engine upgrade, but I think homing missiles will be useful since I am expecting lots of aces, Soontir, Vader, Whisper, etc... Better ideas and critiques for this one?

For 1v1, I don't think that it gets much better than Omega Leader, although operating at PS 8 would likely be a problem. It seems like setting the limit at 50 points for a single ship is steering towards a pretty specific sort of list-building.

Is this a 1v1 tournament or multiple ships at 50 points?

Poe with R2-D2.

Soontir fel can be extremely durable in the late game, they are not rare the games where he wins alone vs most of the enemy list

Hunger Games to me implies a multi-ship Furball. Soontir might not be best under those circumstances because people will tend to gang up on him (particularly if someone happens to strip his tokens).

Are you allowed large ships? The good old Falcon actually has a lot to offer in this format because its durability is based primarily on health rather than a finite supply of tokens. Try the following.

48 Chewbacca (42), Lone Wolf(2), C-3PO (3), Falcon Title (1)

You still have a crew slot spare so you could chuck in another 2 point crew member or something if you wish. Nien Numb can be handy. Or drop the Title and put Lando aboard for his shenanigans with C-3PO. For 1 Action, C-3PO + Lando can guarantee you an Evade token + up to 2 Focus tokens.

none of these are Corran Horn with PTL sensors and r2-d2, so they are all incorrect

while Omega Leader is the most cost effective anti-ace ever, Corran Horn (or Eathn) is essentially immortal 1v1 between focus + evade + regeneration

engine upgrade gets him up to 49 points

and yet my Corran always blows up very very well :(

Why not a Starviper?

I would probably try,

Guri - 30pts

VI - 1pt

Advanced Proton Torpedoes - 6 pts

Virago - 1pt

Auto Thrusters - 2pts

Advanced Sensors - 3pts

Cloaking Device - 2pts

Total - 45pts

I would use this to stay alive and cloak through the worst of the abuse, saving the torps for a big finish.

I'm a great fan of Jake Farrel

It is a furball and while I like Jake and Guri I only own imperial ships. Here's another idea:

Valen Rudor (22)

Tie V.1 (1)

Auto-thrusters (2)

Expose (4)

Homing Missles (5)

Total (34)

The last furball I played, I brought VCX Kanan, with Lando/C3P0/Expirimental interface, FCS, Dorsal, and a few torps to use the rear arc.

If it's a 1v1, Whisper, hands down.

Whisper, Veteran Instincts, Agent Kallus, Fire Control System, and Advanced Cloaking Device puts you at a MEASLY 41 points. With Kallus aboard, you're always converting at least one eyeball to a hit or an evade. With Fire Control System, you are likely never to miss a shot with the re-roll. Plus, if you hit, you get the focus and recloak (you'd recloak either way). Yeah, Whisper for my money.. She hits like a sledgehammer, and then disappears only to hit again. With that 4 dice attack (5 at range 1), she'll make short work of most everyone.

If I get Corran in late game, I win. Yes, he blows up, but you have to learn how to fly him so he is hard to hit. :) Corran requires patience.

The advanced prototype is solid, but in furball (IMO) the most important think is being difficult to hit. It makes you an unattractive target early on and late game you can rely on positioning more. Expose isn't really worth while, in a furball because you will get shot if you are agility 2. if anyone can get a shot on a agility 2 ship, they should take it in furball.

Missiles are risky too, unless you can guarantee your survival, you either wont get to use them, or you need to know you will get to use them and that you will use them against something worth while.

Also you are massively low on points, there is an inherent balance in points in X-wing and you will be under powered, but that might work to allow you to be ignored.

If it's a 1v1, Whisper, hands down.

Whisper, Veteran Instincts, Agent Kallus, Fire Control System, and Advanced Cloaking Device puts you at a MEASLY 41 points.

Whisper is pretty good in furball too. Swap out Agent Kallus for Rebel Captive and see how badly anyone wants to be the first person to shoot at you each round. :D

I think a Defender might do well in the format too. But the more traditional version:

TIE Defender: · Rexler Brath (37)

Push The Limit (3)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

It could be a real pain to try dealing with, as it has the maneuverability, the health, and the raw firepower to go toe-to-toe with the other aces these days. You could go VI to fire before Whisper too.

Or, if they allow unreleased cards, you could try something this:

TIE Defender: · Maarek Stele (35)

Juke (2)

Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

TIE/x7 (-2)

You can throw out the engines for a hull or shield upgrade if you wanted. But that's based on your preference.

Omega Leader really makes life suck during end game. Especially with U-boats.

Yeah but at 29 points is omega leader really worth it.

Kenkirk with ysanne and jerjerrod is 50 and would keep you alive for quite some time.
