After Attackers and Defenders have been declared if a card effect moves a Defender out of the Zone being attacked are they still a part of the combat?

i would say yes. They have already been declared attackers. Sort of like corrupting a unit after it has been declared as an attacker... doesnt retroactively cancel the fact that it is attacker.

The difference, to my mind, is that the unit is now outside of the zone.

I agree that there is some similarity to the corruption of a declared defender/attacker.

The issue is the definition of "participating in the combat".
