Happy Father's Day!

By PrettyHaley, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I believe Star Wars makes better parents out of everyone because the great examples of horrible parenting in the setting. From a dad who tortures his daughter and cuts off his son's hand so he'll shut up and listen to a mother who totally loses the will to live just after giving birth to twins, how could any Star Wars fans not aspire and succeed at doing better!!!

Happy Father's Day, people! You're already better at it than the heroes from your favorite movies!:)

Hear hear!

...wait, is that depressing? I think it's depressing...

Aww, Mr Haley still has a great daughter!

I lost my dad in 1990, but I'll never forget him. He indulged a 7 year old girl by taking her to a dingy Newport cinema in 1977, to see some sci-fi flick that ignited a spark in her head, a love/hate relationship that would last all her life.

I'll never forget that as we left, he turned to my mother and said how impressed he was 'with that young actor who played Captain Solo' and hoped we'd see more of him in the future...

I lost my step-dad just this past April, but he was the one who inspired my love for Star Wars, too.

He did so much for me, I never thanked him enough...

My father instilled a love of sci-fi and fantasy in me at a very early age, too. By the time Star Wars was released in '77, he'd already read me The Hobbit and a few more obscure books. We went to see the entire original trilogy as a family, always there on the day the films opened.

He passed three years ago, but that legacy lives on with my own children, and soon my grandchildren.

Aww, Fee

My birth dad is still alive and very much a cherished part of my life, but he's in Ohio and I live in Colorado with my Mom and step-dad. So this is the first time my sister and I have had nothing to do on Father's Day...

So let me say this: everyone who is lucky enough to spend time with their dad today, do it. Sometimes it may seem like a hassle, but you'll miss it so much when you no longer have the chance.

My Dad also took me to see Star Wars, as well as a number of other SF movies, and he had a very extensive collection of SF books in his library. In 6th grade, I tried to do a book report on Isaac Asimov’s Foundation Trilogy, and didn’t get a very good grade — no one understood a word I said.

Those books also set me on a life-long love of artwork by Chris Foss. Which I have recently rekindled, by purchasing a copy of every single book he’s released for his artwork. It’s a different aesthetic than Star Wars and Ralph McQuarrie, but I love them both. And Sid Mead, too.

So, yeah — I need to give my dad a call. Thanks for the reminder!
