Which is better on a Shuttle, Sensor Jammer or Reinforced Deflectors

By SmartCookie, in X-Wing

So, with those Torpedo shooting Scouts out there making the Sensor Jammer less than ideal, is Reinforced Deflectors a better option?

I like Sensor Jammer. Torpedo Scouts have to spend their Focus to fire, so unless they have an Overclocked R4 they won't be able to change the Jammed hit back.

I would think that sensor jammer works fine against plasma/r4 agromech scouts, since the eyeball from jammer can't be rerolled. Reinforced deflectors is better against protons and overclocked.

A lot of them use Proton Torpedoes, though. Whenever they don't roll a natural focus all you do is feeding them a free crit.

Enhanced scopes + anti pursuit lasers.

Use the Emperor for free damage. Come to think of it 2 is less than 3 so you don't even need the scopes. So maybe you don't need anything?

True, but there's even odds of them having rolled an eyeball anyway. And if it's plasma torps ... well, very situational in any case. Sensor Jammer is going to work on every single attack; RD needs 3 hits to get through.

I would think that perhaps the sensor jammer would have more application against other lists? TIE rolls 2 at the shuttle and has evade, gets 1 hit, which gets jammed? I would take jammer over the deflectors.

If you have played against a shuttle with sensor jammer, you'd know sensor jammer is better (and boss). In almost every situation, sensor jammer is better. And most aces lists are not scared of triple jumps/torpedoes.

If this is in doubt, check out the aces lists that are top 8/16 in Regionals and nationals - if there is a system on the shuttle, it's sensor jammer.

i pretty much glue Baffles to mine so he can actually TURN and often standing still for 2 turns is huge.

But between the two, probably reinforced shields. Sensor jammer never really helps me, they always have a focus anyway and its expensive. Reinforced shields will at least mitigate the damage of heavy hits, which is usually what the shuttle faces. Ive never lost him to anything that didnt throw 4+ dice lol

Proton torp says LOL

Guidance chimps say LOL

overall effectiveness is... below average.

Agaisnt Plasma torps, it means that there is no margin for error. If they get blank-hit-hit-hit after re-roll, Chips moves the blank up, Jammer moves a hit down. It's useful against Plasmas, as that will happen often enough. Vs Protons it's less useful, but can still save you a hit occasionally.

Sensors are more universally useful than Deflectors but they are quite a bit more expensive.

4 points vs 3 points? The Jammers are worth a point every time in my book, unless that point is critical for another ship to work.
