I was at the same store as Crabbok and it was great. Had about six or seven games going on at once, and had a good number of new players (one of whom bought it after watching a single game). Everybody got a promo card and free pizza, and we all had a great time playing a great game.

I was also there. Buddy of mine walked away with $100+ worth of purchases, as well as a strong sense of community. I thought the store handled it above and beyond.

The event was fine, the card was stupid though. What's the point of it exactly? It's not really a alt art card, and having darth on one side and luke on the other is kinda weird.

On the plus side I got an alt art gunner card and possibly won a custom range ruler and dice bag for a fun side event they had.

We did casual, free, show up and play get a card. Exactly as intended.

2 of 3 local stores did this. The other did a paid-entry tournament AND open play and demos also going on. So I guess technically 100% of the local stores had free open play and demos (with one also offering something for veterans).

I went to one of the open play events. Had lots of dads and kids playing and/or learning. Fun time.

OMG. Vader is Anakin, Luke's dad? Noooooooooooo.

Yeah, it was a "DOH" moment. I'm suffering from SFB. That's when the grey cells turn into brown sludge.

I ran a furball event that had 8 teams of 2 in attendance. It was free, I also gave away an entire season kit, and I even tried a new type of scoring system. We had several family member teams, including my 5 year old daughter (who utterly killed it for the night).

Sorry to hear the stores in your area are crummy and your community opted not to do something for it. Maybe you should seize the moment and atart building a better community that won't run non-free events for this Father's Day celebration.
