R4 agromech and target lock

By Varkell72, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi everybody. Just one question about agromech and target lock, during the last open series. My opponent (jumpmaster) with focus fired at me with the turret causing 1 hit and two blanks. Then he spent the focus and acquired a target lock and he used it immediately to reroll two miss. I think that he could use target roll on the next turn, but the judge agreed with my opponent. It seems strange that you could use a target lock after the attack, otherwise you could use in the same way even with the upgrade that grants you target lock AFTER the attack... Thanks in advance for any feedback on this.

It is funny how you answer your own question... Fire Control System give it AFTER, like you said yourself.

No where on the Aggromech it is written that it is AFTER the attack. in fact no where on the card it is written anything about attack. He spend a focus token he trigger the Agromech he get Target Lock and his attack is still not done.

There is no rules about the order you must spend your token during an attack.

If you check out the FAQ there's a listing fof the R4. It gives the explanation for its use along with an example of spending a focus before the actual attack to use the weapon. All with no snide remarks.

Thanks for your reply and clarify. My point was just that in TFA manual, on target lock action, says that (I have to translate myself....so forgive me for any mistake):if you shoot at a target you can reroll all the die you wish. I assumed (and probably this is my mistake) that shoot means roll die... ;)

You're not wrong about that, but that doesn't change the answer in this situation. "Spending a Target Lock" is one of the things you can do during the "Attacker Modifies Attack Dice" step of the Attack sequence, and since you're still in that step when R4 gives you your Target Lock, you can use it right away. Fire Control System doesn't work during the attack that grants it because the attack is over, and "Attacker Modifies Attack Dice" is long past (the duration of the "Attack" encompasses more than just the rolling of the red dice--there's a whole sequence in the Rules Reference guide under Attack).
