Do I really need Palpatine in this list? Needs some fine tuning.

By ChewfalconSolo, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey all.

I was thinking of running Yorr and Deathrain together as sort of a Stall Wall squad.

Problem is I'm not sure what to run on Yorr seeing as I'm trying to Stress and Ionize everything.

What I have is this so far:

Captain Yorr

Palpatine

APL

Total: 34

Deathrain

Extra Munitions

Connor Net

Advanced Sensors

Twin Ion Engine Mk. II

Total: 36

Squad Total: 70

Do I honestly need Palpatine? Or is there a better combo with Yorr I can use for Stress and Ionization?

I'm not sure what to add to this or take away.

Any help is great.

I would worry more about how you are going to inflict damage. You have a ship with 2 attack dice and another that can't maneuver. You are relying too heavily on your bombs.

Would this list be more efficient with a Swarm?

I was considering this layout as well:

Captain Yorr

Fleet Officer

Rebel Captive

Total:30pts

Howlrunner

18pts

Epsilon Leader

19pts

X2 Academy Pilots 12pts each.

Sensors are good on Deathrain to be sure, but he's the one pilot I've found so far that is really effective with Enhanced Scopes. Knowing where your enemy will be and ensuring that you will deny them the action is crucial; if you fly him right, he can knock a Jumpmaster offline during the initial engagement, and he creates a huge no-fly zone for aces lest he drop a net on them. Follow up next turn with Thermal Detonators or Seismic Charges to absolutely wreck somebody's day. He's a bit fragile to be sure, and you'll want some heavy hitters to back him up as without his bombs his damage output is pretty low - but at least in my experience he's a very good control piece. With that said, he absolutely does not need Palpatine - he's not relying on his primary weapon that much, and his green dice are pitiful. Not 100% sure what you're going with with Yorr other than letting Deathrain K-turn and drop a bomb. That said, you could do something like this:

Captain Yorr (24)

- Palps (8)

- HLC (7)

Total 39

Deathrain (26)

- Enhanced Scopes (1)

- Connor Net (4)

- Extra Munitions (2)

- Seismic Charges (2)

- Long-Range Scanners (0)

Total 35

Omega Leader (21)

- Juke (2)

- Comms Relay (3)

Total 26

Bear in mind that I've never flown a palpmobile (lacking both the palp and the mobile ATM) and I've certainly never seen somebody put an HLC on one - but I think this might have potential. Deathrain gets into the melee and ions people, and Yorr follows up and blasts the ioned ship's face with the cannon. OL does his ace thing supported by palp. I'm probably doing the list horribly wrong since as I said I've never flown a palp list, but this would be the type of setup I'd use to support Deathrain.

I don't have Long Range Scanners or Palpatine at the moment. But that does seem like a solid build.

The idea with Yorr is to have a Stress Bot, similar to the ever-so-popular Y-Wing. But this was easier to get my hands on than the R2 unit.

Deathrain would be there to Ionize any threats that come within range of smacking into the Shuttle.

That way I can really throw tokens around. Plus as you mentioned. Free K-Turns.

The Shuttle/Punisher combo would act as a wall to deter swarms from trying anything fancy. Plus Omega Leader (with the list you provided) could act as a damaging factor.

Hence why I like Palpatine or Rebel Captive/Mara Jade.

Palpatine can help re rolls from any attacks at any time. Or I can make a Stress Bot 3000 with Rebel Captive and Mara Jade. Seeing as if I move Deathrain and Yorr in a good position, I can Stress and Ionize in the same turn.

A total of 2 for the first ship to attack seeing as Mara Jade would trigger in the end phase, and one there after.

That was the idea anyway.

I think you've got Yorr's pilot ability mixed up. Yorr pulls stress off your friendly ships; he does not give people stress tokens. Here's his pilot card:

I do like what you're going for though, stress + ion on something with Deathrain. Kath Scarlett is the only imperial pilot I can think of that hands out stress tokens (although I may be forgetting others); Thermal Detonators on Deathrain or either crew you mentioned could also do the job. How about this?

Deathrain (26)

- Connor Nets (4)

- Extra Munition (2)

- Enhanced Scopes (1)

- Thermal Detonators (3)

- TIE Mk. II (1)

Total 36

Kath Scarlett (38)

- Cluster Missiles (4)

- Tactican (2)

- Slave 1 (0)

- Extra Munitions (2)

- Guidance Chips (0)

- Predator (3)

Total 47

Epsilon Squadron Pilot (15)

Total 99

Epsilon blocks if neccessary, deathrain ions things, and Kath follows up with 2-4 stress tokens to the face (range 2 cluster missile shot with her pilot ability and Tactician). Swapping out Tactican for Jade or Captive could be another option.

I know Yorr's ability is to take friendly stress. Hence my struggle to see if this works or not. :)

The idea with Yorr was to have one or both. Rebel Captive and Mara Jade would deal Stress. And that is aside from Yorr's

ability. So Yorr deals and takes.

This is why I wondered if I needed Palpatine in this list.

If Yorr can take stress from my ships, and then be within range with Rebel Captive and Jade. Then I can deal stress.

Palpatine can re roll like a boss.

Again. It was purely an idea. Never said it would work. :P

But I do like that list with Scarlett

Ah I see, I was confused because you had Palps in the initial list. I could definitely see Mara Jade / Rebel Captive working. Other possibility is you could go with Oicunn on a Decimator; he definitely likes to get in close to have Jade work, and he plays very well with Deathrain (ion them before they move so you can bump them again).
