Strength Values

By guest313231, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

I have to say kudos to FFG for one of my longest grudges against the Warhammer RPGs.

I absolutely hated that your 'average' Orc, Beastman and Chaos Warrior was listed as having a 40% Strength value. I know you could increase them, but most pictures of these monsters have displayed creatures of raw muscle and gristle. So to list them as a 40% Strength really irked me. It was pretty casual to have every warrior character with a 40+ strength. Heck in one of the adventures they listed a Minotaur as having a 42% strength...really?

I guess I just hate having to describe this beast of a creature, showing a picture and then having the players laugh at it's damage output.

So finally, having your standard Orc and Gor having a 5 Strength in 3rd edition makes me very happy. The average human is 3 whereas these races are notiably higher. I love it. Oh and the Chaos Warrior having a 6 Strength is solid gold.

I just had to mention how happy that part makes me.

Myself, I can't wait to see the real heavy hitters. Dragons and Dragon Ogres come to mind here.

I don't have the box yet... Could you tell me how strong a Giant is? In previous edition they had around 60-65% if I remember correctly - the same of a vampire, or a well developed dwarf giant slayer...

He's 7 or 8.

I think 8 and a fortune die?

I'm glad they fixed it. I hope he doesn't has any actions which allow him to attack 5 times a round - okay, it could be explained in some way, but is still was a bit ridiculous for me. :)

Yeah the strength values in old wfrp was FUBAR

One of my players illustrated this perfectly, by wrestling with a bear naked, and won without a scratch. I had to admit that evening it was hard to defend the rules. But the main problem was that 2nd edition tended to simply write off the characteristic values straight from WFB without any change.

I am glad to hear that this have been changed. and look forward for my box.

So far, very little you to attack twice.

You get one action card in a round and that's it.

When using two weapons you need to purchase a card that lets you swing with both weapons. Getting a basic success only allows you to use the damage value of one of your weapons. Getting 3 successes means that you hit with both of your weapons. (I happen to think that's a great way to handle dual wielding...sometimes you use the one weapon to 'set up your attack' and sometimes you manage to hit with both weapons).

Getting Sigmar's Comet (when in an Aggressive Stance) allows you to make another attack.

I've not looked at all the cards, but I expect there are a handful of get X result/combo of results to get an additional attack. The nice thing is that it's generally a random bonus and not something that can be relied upon.

Some of the monsters have a few rare ability to make multiple attacks but I would still mantain that from beginning to end, 80%-90% of the actions will result in a single attack.

I believe that in the original editions they explained that a round of combat was filled with attacks and parries and so forth. The number of attacks was just a representation of how many chances your character was skilled enough to have a consistant chance of success. So a starting hero throws like 10 attacks in a round but only has a chance of 1 being successful, where an Assassin has 4 chances to be successful.

I always found that to be a dull explaination.

Action cards seem to really help the visualization of the combat.

I think you 'Hit' a maximum of once a round. How long you have to wail on a guy who's thrown up a wall of steel to do that in a couple of seconds is another matter... :)
