Keyan and Red Squad Vets

By BCooper85, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey guys,

I've just decided on a list to use for a tournament on Sunday and thought I'd run it by you guys to firstly see what you think and secondly to see how you would fly it!

Keyan with E2 and Hera, HLC, FCS and Stay on Target

Red Squad Vet with Targeting Astro, Integrated and Crack Shot x 2

I'm taking it quite casual and have never used SoT and Crack before so thought I'd give them a go, never used Keyan before either!

Obviously they are all going to like K turning but any thoughts past that?

Hey man,

I have been messing around with Red Vets and this is the build I have for them now. I did have autos but they just didn't trigger enough for me so IA prob saved the same amount of damage (and possibly a nasty crit)

I have been pairing them with a ghost but Keyan can do some work. I just worry he dies to quick to the likes of filthy Uboats and arc dodgers. The build on him is efficient tho

Hey bud,

I have the same worry but I'm treating the tournament casual (famous last words) and find the build interesting so why not!

If I fly Keyan separately to the Vets then maybe my opponent will have a tough choice on who to go for first? We'll see.

Nah, the choice is simple. Keyan needs to die. Protect him at all costs with the Vets. In fact try to bait with them in front if you can and if one takes some damage then you may be able to divert fire from Keyan another round. But he is a juicy target with all those points dumped into him. Slow roll him in from a corner or into the asteroids to protect from swarms, and set the Red Vets loose on something. You might have to block aces with them so Keyan can get a shot.

Found that out yesterday! I flew the 3 of them in formation with Keyan at the back, generally the X's got into range first round of shooting with Keyan just out and then in the second round I would try to bump an X giving two of my ships nice R1 shots. The vets are awesome, can see me sticking with them for a while; Keyan on the other hand.....

He's great and maybe it's just practice that is needed but he is a lot of points.

He can be pretty fun to fly, but I just think B-wings lack the survivability to dump a lot of points into them like HLCs. Keyan may just be best with Stay On Target and FCS. Then you can make the rest of your list more threatening too.

I've been flying 3x Red Squadron veterans (TA, IA, CS) along with a Tala Squadron pilot and I've had great success with that list.

Dump the HLC. I tried it on him for multiple games and really never saw better results than I would have with the primaries.

I ended up giving him a single shot of Proton Torpedoes, FCS, Hera and VI to make him more of a threat to enemy aces. It's amazing the number of times you can use Hera to allow you to position a solid Red maneuver and take that shot. And the points you free up can buff one of his escorts and or buy you a Tractor Beam for extra shenanigans.

Edit: Like this...
