Specialisation in Dodge

By mac40k, in WFRP Rules Questions

Dodge is listed as one of the example specializations for Coordination. The rules for specialization state that you add a [W] to any check where the specialization applies. The Dodge action states that if you are trained in Coordination, you add a second to the opponents pool. What effect would being specialized in Dodge have in this case? You certainly wouldn't want to add a [W] to the opponent's pool. Would the specialization only be relevant to story mode? Or should you be able to add a 3rd to an opponent's check when you use the Dodge action?

My understanding is the Spec. is only used in story mode-avoiding something big, heavy and dangerous-like a trap, falling rock or run away cart.

Not sure how often that sort of thing is going to happen.....

This same question would apply to the Block specialization of Resilience and the Parry specialization of Weapon Skill.

I have to assume that those may be artifacts left over from a previous edit or something. How either would apply to "story mode" is a mystery to me.

My only Guess would be, maybe the extra on the Block, Parry, or Dodge card required those specs. at one time?

No doubt these are in part added to the confusion about how combat works..

.I like the game but it certainly does have it's share of "What the?" moments.

I was also thinking they might be for story mode actions, like the Dodge specialisation of the Coordination skill giving an additional [W] when avoiding certain traps for example.

But when one takes into account the Block specialisation of Resilience and especially the " Parry with hand weapon " and " Parry with great weapon " specializations of Weapon skill ... it seems quite clear that this is some kind of relic from an older version of the game. These specialization will hopefully be officially removed through an upcoming errata, if nothing else than to avoid unnecessary confusion.

I would say it adds another when using those Defences, as well as adding [W] in a skill check related to that action.

There was a disussion about this on another thread and the idea was put forward that at some point a super improved dodge, block, parry card would be released of which one of the requirements would be specialisation in the appropriate "thing"....

Yet another possibility.

Clarification as to whether it is an "Artifact" that should be ignored, or a mechanic to govern a future card, or some kind of typo/misprint (maybe the fortune die symbol should by a misfortune one???) would be nice....and would go a way to clear up the confussion it created
