Deployment of group compared to individual

By Payens81, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

I think I know the answer to this and I have checked the rules and I do not see it spelled out.

Say for example you spend 6 threat and bring out Stormtroopers. The rules say that you can deploy to any active deployment point. Does that mean then that if there is 3 deployment points active that you can put 1 trooper at each deployment point? OR since you are deploying a group so they all have to be deployed to the same point?

That leads into the next question in that same situation you reinforce by 2 Stormtroopers. Can those come out at separate deployment points? or do the 2 of them have to come in at the same point?

You must deploy all figures in a group to the same active deployment point.

When you reinforce, you reinforce figures one at a time. You can thus choose any active deployment point for each reinforced figure separately.

The rules just say "deploys all figures in that group to any active deployment point." If you're only allowed to deploy to 1 point then there should be errata. It also doesn't make a whole lot of sense you can reinforce to multiple points but can only deploy to 1. Splitting up deployments has been the only way the Imperials can prevent Fenn or Diala from wiping out entire groups before they even get to act.

Do check the provided link.

It does not require an errata, just rereading what the rule actually says. It effectively says to select an active deployment point, then deploy the figures to the selected deployment point. (Note the singular of "any deployment point".)

Splitting deployments is not the only way to play against Fenn, Diala or Gaarkhan.

As an example a Hired Gun group might be a good choice to make them think twice (especially Diala and Gaarkhan).

The rule very clearly says when you deploy a figure it can be to any point. There is nothing about having to deploy all figures of a card to the same point. You should try reading the rule.

You don't deploy figures, you reinforce figures. You deploy groups.

When you reinforce, you add each figure separately and can choose a different active deployment point for each figure. For groups you select one active deployment point, and place all figures (from 1 to 3) of that group as close to the selected deployment point as possible.

He must spend threat (threat) equal to the group's deployment cost, and then he deploys all figures in that group to any active deployment
point.

The rule talks about a single deployment point (otherwise it would say "all figures to any active deployment points"). The interpretation has been confirmed by FFG.

You can of course house-rule it, but this is how the rules work.

You should try reading the rule.

Why did you even start a thread to ask this? You have clearly already made up your mind and neither a1bert's to-the-point clarifications or his link to the lead developer confirming what he is telling you, seems to make a difference.

Or had you hoped for a different response?
