Boba Fett crew question

By Juunon, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Boba Fett's crew card reads: After performing an attack, if the defender was dealt a faceup damage card, you may discard this card to choose and discard 1 of the defender's upgrade cards.

FAQ adds: A ship equipped with Boba Fett can use his ability if the defender was dealt a faceup Damage card from any source during the attack.

Does this include friendly attacks, or can Boba's ability only be used on the attacks the ship he's equipped on makes?

'You' and 'your' always refer to the ship to which an upgrade is equipped, never to the player or to other ships. Only the ship with Boba on it can trigger and use his ability.

Hypothetically if something like Dace Bonearm's pilot ability were to be capable of dealing a faceup damage card, it could also allow Boba Fett to trigger for the attacker. However, not even equipping Dace with Greedo would enable that. But it is important to know for future reference - the ship owning Boba Fett has to be the attacker for Boba Fett to trigger, but that ship does not have to be the reason why a faceup damage card was dealt, as long as one is dealt to the defender as an immediate consequence within the attack.

There was some discussion a while ago regarding Boba being on the Mist Hunter. The target ship is hit by a tractor beam attack and moved to overlap an asteroid. The shield-less defender rolls for the asteroid and the result is a crit, so he draws a faceup damage card. Now the question was, does that count as a trigger for Boba to be able to do his thing? Or is the damage roll from the asteroid not count as damage from the attack?

The FAQ clarified this particular scenario as damage from the asteroid had occured as a result of the attack and as such Boba would trigger his ability because a faceup damage card had been dealt during the resolution of the attack. That's the "any source" part of the FAQ entry.

would this apply with damage delt by a proton bomb? assuming the ship with boba was the ship that dropped said bomb?

Unless Fett has some way to drop the bomb during his attack, no.

Boba only triggers after an attack, and bombs and mines aren't an attack.
