I also want to give him some backup that is able to stay on the battlefield to offer some distraction so put some Snowtroppers with him, do you think this could work with all the new tricks being offered?

He's still going to have trouble catching some lists, his support is always going to be targeted. I like the idea of Force Lightning, but it will probably just get strain-drained.

Force choke is probably better and cheaper

Cut lines is for spies only, so you may alter the command deck a bit to get some focus, inspiring speech, camoflauge, etc to make Vader hit extra hard when he gets his attacks in. New Orders is a great replacement for Force Lightning as your officer can place his buddy in position hopefully and then get Vader a second activation.
