Nationals kit

By NeverBetTheFett, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Wow, I want all of those! And the coin is my favorite one yet!

so boring....same as with the x-wing kit nothing new...need nothing of this

What's the point dial like? noticed there doesn't seem to be a plastic connector through the middle so is it magnetic or?

It's magnetic, it isn't too strong so if you turn it over and give it a light shake, it will come out. Easy to adjust the points, but might also be easy to overadjust.

I try never to be negative, but that kit blows.

eh the 3 damage tokens and the score dials are nice, not sure what you expected.

Not to be combative, but what did you expect? I would've been thrilled to get any of these pieces.

I like the card, but the rest...

Damage Tokens in a National Price Kit?!? You can't play with that number of tokens, and you don't visit too many Nationals to get more...

I won't be able to visit german Nationals (1 day before my exams...), that sucks. That kit eases the pain but there's no accounting for taste, so everything's fine.

I do not like that national kit as well....ugly point counter...who needs coins...and I already have enough acrylic damage counter....I probably stay in the x-wing cut if I make it at the same day...but there the kit is almost equally bad....only top 8 templates are ok

Worse yet, I don't think we're getting one in Canada at all, so if you want that sweet Boba Fett card, you better get to GenCon or you're SOL.

I suppose a trip to eBay might be cheaper though... :P

What makes you think that?

When FFG posted their Nationals announcement, Canada was absent. All they mentioned was the US Nationals at Origins and the North American Nationals at GenCon.

True but it wasn't just Canada that was absent, it was only the US that was announced. The Canadian distributor is the one who'll announce the Canadian nationals, same as happens in other countries, same as has happened in previous years.

Were you at Canadian Nationals last year, if not for IA but for maybe even X-Wing/Armada? There were local concerns over the logistics with the distributor and communicating all of that information out.

I want to say the attendance at Canada's X-Wing Nationals last year was something like 25 people? There were at least twice that many at the Regionals we had in Toronto earlier that summer, and I'd wager it was a combination of the venue not being locked up in a convention and being communicated through FFG's News feed.

So the concern that I have comes from FFG stating that they were going to be more involved with these non-US events, presumably to curtail the issues with the distributor.

I can't speak for how IA's Nationals went down in Vancouver last year, as I haven't heard anything about it at all. If it's being handled as it was last year, I'd expect an unfortunately low attendance for everything, but if FFG was going to handle it themselves, there would have presumably been that communication when they were announcing Nationals previously.

So from a Canadian player's perspective, the no-news on the Nationals front is disappointing, as, specifically from the perspective of a Toronto player, we have a pretty good community out here for X-Wing that would love to populate a Nationals with a bunch of bodies, with a presence for IA and Armada as well that would like some love.

I know Toronto isn't the only city in Canada (though some Torontonians might disagree, and our cousins in cities across the country often feel that WE feel that way), so we can't be the only "major city meta" that wants to get some Nationals love, but I'd even settle for the news that it's going to Vancouver, and that it turns out to be a big event. I think we all want it, but Canada's a big place that isn't easy to travel across for most people, but at least having it "somewhere" and having it go off well would be better than arbitrarily dividing it in half and having none of it have any real significant attendance.

Off topic a bit but was pretty surprised to hear there were only 9 people at the Mississauga regionals, two of those travelled from Halifax area, so is there really only 7 people in GTA willing and able to make it out to tournaments?

Well, I can speak for myself and one other Toronto player that it came down to scheduling around holidays and other commitments, so apparently there's only 9 GTA players.

I wasn't there at last year's, for similar reasons, but I think the count was 4? We have another one coming up in a couple of weeks near Toronto that I actually will be going to, but I would be shocked if it went to double digits. I'd also be happy, so here's hoping.

That said, 9 at a Regional that's accessible to a major city seems about right if the US National brought in 20-25 bodies?

This game just doesn't have the traction on a competitive level (in Toronto at least?) to fill a room like X-Wing does, which is a shame because I find that the regular faces that populate Toronto's IA events are all really enjoy it, but winning a 9 person Regional doesn't have the same weight to it as pulling ahead in like 60 person Regional.

It also doesnt help to hold it on a Wednesday.

Ya, we got 8 in Halifax so was surprised the group wasn;t bigger in TO is all, I guess where you guys have two though maybe the fact that people can pick and choose which one they'd rather attend has split the group a bit. Hopefully you do get a bigger turnout at the next one!

I hope so too, but I'm doubtful. The IA events don't come up with the regularity that X-Wing does, where you can pick and choose what you attend and still get in some major events throughout the year.

If a Store Championship or higher IA event lands near you, you're going to want to hit it, because there won't be many options.

The turnout wasn't very high, I think around 22 players, but it started early afternoon on a Wednesday so that makes it tough for a lot of people. Some of the people there I had seen at previous regionals and store championships, a good amount of talented players were present.

That's what they get for putting the National Championship on a Wednesday in Columbus, OH (a place 2/3rds of the country can't get a direct flight to). Oh yeah, it's in middle of E3 and Apple's WWDC.

I wanted to go but...

Also, at a convention scheduled during Fathers Day weekend....

Bit strange that this kit also has a trophy that's identical to the Regionals one.

The store champs plaque was different.

I also wish there were more damage tokens. 5 singles, three 3s and three 5s, isn't really enough. And apart from ebay, there's no other way to get more because it's unlikely most people will be able to make it to multiple Nationals outside of maybe Europe.

Meanwhile I now have 15 crate tokens, and about 9 C3PO cards.

For as few as I have, I'm loving the damage tokens. The 3 damage token in particular clears up a lot of the mess of damage tracking. A friend of mine traded his top 8 coin for another pack of tokens, but still lacks the amount he needs for his Wookie list.
