Xavier's School for Force-Sensitive Youngsters

By HappyDaze, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

I'm considering using several elements from the X-men as the base of a Force and Destiny campaign. Don't misunderstand; I have no intention of using direct analogues for all of the numerous X-men themselves, I just want to play with a few of the background pieces.

1) As the title says, there will be a school/retreat that exists to hide and train Force Sensitives. An out of the way planet is the obvious choice of location, but I'm not really wanting to go so far as to put this in the hinterlands of the Outer Rim. I also want the location to contain a vergence for the next point.

2) I want the location to feed a Cerebro equivalent that draws upon the vergence to find Force Sensitives from afar (or, more likely, predicting where and when they might appear). Obviously such a vergence would be of great interest to the Inquisitorius.

3) I want to have an Xavier figure that founds the school/retreat, possibly an Xavier/Magneto hybrid with the school founder having a view of Force Sensitives being superior beings. This character may or may not fulfill the Mentor option for the PCs and will not leave the school/retreat. A former Jedi is the obvious angle, but I am considering a 'failed' Jedi that was pulled into the Inquisitorius for a time before having a heel-face turn and going rogue.

4) The PCs will be the 'X-men' tasked to go out and save Force Sensistives from the Empire...and to save the galaxy along the way. The group will have their own 'Blackbird' (the former Inquisitor's Skywatcher-class Deep Space Scout) that they will take on their missions.

OK, those are the basics. Feedback?

Cool idea. Hiding in plain site could work too, perhaps there are 2 vergence on the same planet and one hides the other, the hidden one being your Cerebro vergence. The Inquisitorius only know of the stronger one thats actually of less use.

A rogue Inquisitor is a great idea for the school founder, a history that none of the PC's know to begin with?

I'm kinda doing this too at the moment with an F&D campaign. Not as a full blown x-men riff, but definitely inspired by those stories when I was thinking the campaign up.

My solution to (1) was to use The Dawn Temple on Spintir for the 'mansion'. The Holocron Gatekeepers are the mentors (3) that cannot leave the 'home-base' but can give guidance/training. The 'blackbird' (4) is a CEC HWK290 (black obviously), though I have no intention of including a 'cerebro' tool for my game, such a device could already be in the temple to locate 'troubled' Jedi in the past.

Good luck with your X-Force (ah crap, that name already exists) campaign, sounds like a cool idea to go with the interstellar force sensitive rescue team.

Have fun!

J-Force? F-Force?

Xavier should totally be Darth Vader in his plan to create a secret Jedi Army to murder the Emperor...

Obviously it should be V-Men

Very neat idea, and something similar to what I did with my Campaign (sans Cerebro).

I actually found that with a little modification, the "Mountaintop Rescue" beginner book adventure is the perfect start to this. Essentially;

1. The Dawn Temple is a remote temple long forgotten by the galaxy with a fairly independent food/water source

2. The Dawn Temple is located next to a Vergence the players clean in the "Lure of the Lost" follow-up adventure

3. The Mentor that gets in kidnapped at the temple in Mountaintop Rescue could be switched to Xavier and instead of him being a friend of the PCs instead he calls to them through the Cerebro effect, pulling them to the planet

4. The villianous Rav Naraan introduced in the sequel could be set up to be the Magneto counterpart. In this version, Malefax knows that Xavier is holding Rav Naraan (picture the whole "imprisoned for the benefit of the galaxy" idea) and as one of his disciples is trying to get Xavier to release him, later, you have the additional possibility to have Xavier let Rav go, vowing to always stand between him and the muggles, a la X-Men

5. The holocrons can be changed to instead be parts of the Cerebro AI that allows the vergence to be converted into a combination Foresee/Seek effect that Cerebro is

Clever answer for a world without Jedi

Good idea over all but I'd be careful to not have it superhero like, doesn't really fit with the whole pulp hero thing IMO and could lose it's SW feel.

I like the ex-Inquisitor idea (also open for the twist at a critical moment - not so ex- after all... see below)
I'd be very careful about the Cerebro thing but it would be a useful starting and final battle hook.

I'd go: An Inquisitor develops an Sense amplifier to find Force Sensitives in his quest to rid the galaxy of the Jedi for his master. But realising he could use this to create an army of Sith, an army he would control and could use it to overthrow Vader and the Emperor and rule the galaxy himself(herself)! Moo ha ha ha!!!!

Anyway the rest writes itself. Fakes death making it look like his machine was destroyed as well, finds a world strong in the Dark Side. Gathers kids but pretends to be on the Light side and that their mission to to defeat the Emperor and return peace to the galaxy (all that stuff). He seduces the PCs by following a Grey path that brings them ever so close to the Dark Side. When questioned he tells them that the Jedi failed because they blinded themselves in the Light and should have followed the teachings of the ancient Jed'ii and been the balance that they seeked rather than only a counterweight to the Dark Side (this should work cuz is plausible and you won't have to do anything different until the critical moment). After many EXP gathering missions the Machine is destroyed and triggers an uncontrollable rage in their Master revealing his Dark Side just before they were to launch their final confrontation with the Emperor! Do they stay loyal and go along with the plan or do they take up the banner of the Light?! If they go with the Light then fight students that follow the Dark Side, then their once beloved Master, all while the Empire closes in on them. Epic all around.

I think I might do this...

I like the Idea of incorporating the Dawn Temple (FaD Beginner extension) into this.

And don't worry, I'm most certainly not going for a superhero feel.

Well, the Vergence could provide some kind of boost to Foresee/Seek powers used within it. And the mentor/Xavier character could be highly skilled in both of those powers, to justify his knowing where new Sensitives would be.

As to the location, sure, an uncharted system doesn't have to be in the Outer Rim. I seem to recall Star Trek: TNG mentioning in one episode that just because they've mapped all the stars in the galaxy, doesn't mean someone's actually been to all of them. It would be very easy to have some un-remarkable system in the core, that is off all of the main hyperspace lanes, and has no real useful resources to be completely overlooked by the galaxy at large. Maybe have the location be some kind of internal habitat, like in an asteroid or hollow moon. Sort of like a moon base, where the life support is produced by the facility, not the environment. Or have the local type of life that has created the vergence be in an environment that is hostile to most sentient species, another reason why it's ignored.

I may be merging this idea with an AoR game. I was thinking that the Defiant Core base could work well, with the vergence being in one of the caves down below. For my mentor figure, I might go with one of Dooku's acolytes rather than a former inquisitor. Instead of a Rebel Alliance base, I was thinking of Separatist Holdouts.

Jeez dude, this is REALLY close to what I was thinking about for my own campaign!!!!

The idea I was building on, is a Jedi who survived Order 66 that no one knows about, living in some exiled world.

This guy's been able to hide the fact he's even Force-Sensitive from most, but he's tasked himself with searching for other Force-Sensitives and gathering a team of them to go after a holocron.

I was gonna have this holocron be the source of information about how to test for Force-Sensitives, thus confirming they exist (because in my game they all start out thinking Jedi are but a myth).

I hadn't decided on how to go past that yet, but I LOVE the Cerebro-like device idea!!! I wanted to come up with something like the holocron powered Sith weapon we see in Rebels, but for the Light Side. This is perfect!!!

Do you mind if I borrow some of your ideas?

Borrow away, but share your own too

Oh, of course!!!

Thanks man.

Mace Windu is the bald leader having survived the fall but lost the use of his legs and now moves around in a hover chair.

I want to avoid direct use of prominent characters. Indirect use is perfectly fine - I have no problems with using one of Dooku's Dark Acolytes (one of my own creation, not necessarily one that appeared in the comics), but I don't want to use Mace or Maul.

It's interesting that he suggested that though, since Sam L Jackson has been saying Mace isn't dead. Lol

Well of course Sam is saying that, he wants a role in the new trilogy, and all that juicy Star Wars money he would get for it! :D Sam's got bills to pay! But there is another thread devoted to the death/life of Mace Windu, so I won't go into that here. :D

Very similar to a campaign I'm writing at the moment but I'm approaching from a slightly different angle the PCs are going to rebuild the temple into the school.

One of the first things the PCs are going to be tasked with by the holocrons is finding a an artefact that will mask the temple's "force usage/residual energies" from the emperor/vader. Dunno if that's an idea you might consider.
