My take on the squire.

By UncleArkie, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Its not much, but it's mine. Here you go the squire, I am working on the sword brother career (may be renamed) a rank 2 knight career and an order mechanic that might change the squire class.

The Empire is home to a multitude of knightly orders. Some of them are prominent and powerful secular forces serving their lords and The Empire itself as heavy cavalry on the field of battle or as diplomatic emissaries, perhaps wearing the colours of the Richsguard or the Knights of the Blazing Sun. Others are orders of templars serving their chosen deity, not as priests of a church or peaceful monks within the walls of a monastery, but as defenders and champions of faith. Best known among these holy warriors are the furious Knights of the White Wolf, dedicated to Ulrich - the god of winter and wolves, and the mysterious order of Morr's Death Guard which patrols holy burial sites and hunting the damned souls rising from their graves.

The squire is a knight in training serving under his lord; fetching food, wine and tending to his mount and panoply. This demeaning and often physically taxing work is traditional. When his master finds him worthy of the honor, he may find himself having served under a tutor ready to instruct him in the arts of war.

Typical Trappings: A squire will be armed with a hand weapon and wear a set of mail armour and a helmet. He will in most cases ride a light warhorse, wielding a lance and shield.

And ofc any input is welcome.

I don't have a copy of the new rules, so take this with a pinch of salt, but I wasn't convinced by Charm as a Career Skill. It's not a Skill I would consider a necessary part of being either a Squire or a Knight (at least not in WFRP). I'd suggest something more along the lines of Animal Care - this fits more closely with a significant part of a Squire's job, namely looking after his master's steed.

Cheers

I'll 2nd dropping charm and adding animal care.

Here's an idea, what if the Square/Knight/Grandmaster career line had an Order, similar to Priests or Wizards? Then each type of knight (Knights Panther, Knights of the White Wolf, etc.) could have have unique abilities. Perhaps the squire career would be generic, and a character wouldn't get the specific powers until full Knight status is achieved.

I dunno. I kinda like the idea of the going back to the old 1st Ed generic Freelance.

But then I never saw the reason for multiple knight careers in 2 ed. Just seemed to be splitting hairs....

I certainly think giving each order it's own deck of "special" actions is going to far.

On the other hand, however, It seems to me , something as simplt as "Talent" cards could define the difference between orders.

I was thinking about giving it an order as well, just a basically the order would designate a minor flavour power and the type of talent that could be socketed into that so you had a tactical talent slot and order.

then order has a power, say for a Reiksguards knight that would be a fortune dice to all rolls when interacting with nobels and a misfortune dice when interacting with commoners while wearing his orders colours. and then a reputation socket on the end of it.

Sounds pretty good.

Then all you gotta do is track down that guy that did the "Apprentice Mage" Card , and see if hes willing to crank out spiffy cards for these!gran_risa.gif
