Crew idea. FFG pay attention

By Khsofsso, in X-Wing

Hi everyone.

What do you guys think to a crew card that lets you choose initiative.

Some sort of strategist :

Rebel/Resistance, Admiral Ackbar/ Garm Iblis

Imperial/First Order, Grand Admiral Thrawn / Grand Moff Tarkin

Scum and Villainy, ? Talon Karrde. Maybe go along the lines of steals Iniative.

How much is this card worth? I would say maybe 0-1 point. Losing a crew slot can be important. More than 1 point you might as well play 98pts.

Give me your opinions. I think it adds something new to the game. Of all the stuff out so far everything is 'In Game' only Adaptability has an affect before game starts.

Won't happen. Initiative is almost certainly going to be used to determine the outcome of draws - it has to be based either on a major sacrifice of points, or be random. And all you're going to see with a card like this would be that it would become mandatory for init bidding lists, so you'd end up back where you were, bidding for initiative, but from 99 points I stead of 100.

FFG, thanks for your attention, you can go back to work now.

Not only is MacchuWA right (and they are), but it's helpful to remember that the grand prize for winning the Worlds Championship... is the right to design one card.

We might throw ideas out there, but if you want FFG to pay attention ... go win Worlds first. ;)

If I win a World Championship, Jar Jar will be a crew for rebels.

I don't think this is a great idea, but IF it did happen, you'd want it to be a crew choice that anybody can get, like a tactician. Faction specific would be bad.

Also, I think it should cost more than 0-1. 2-3 feels more like it. If you've got a squad that just has to have initiative, you've probably got a list with a few high PS arc-dodgers, something timing specific (like Whisper), or you're spamming a very common PS (like jump masters). If your list gains a significant advantage by having initiative, spending nothing but a crew slot to guarantee that advantage is under-costing it.

It's still a terrible idea, really.

If you want to spend 3 points on initiative, you bid 3 points. If someone else shows up with a 4 point bid, you lose it. That's... kind of the whole reason why it's a 'bid'. Else you're just saying that initiative bids require a ship with a crew slot in your fleet that wasn't using it for anything else; you'll find that the different factions have very different premiums on such things.

If you had to have it, I suggest that the best you could hope for is a card that won ties... and cost 1 point.

(Let's see if anyone notices. ;) )

It would definitely need the price going up and the ability toning down

Perhaps if it allowed - no, compelled - you to make a new initiative roll at the start of each round - so you can pass it if you've got it and don't want it - or take it if you do - but as a downside added possibility of gaining it if you didn't want it -and losing it if you did, then you might be onto something

Then there's always the possibility of both people having the crew and you've basically made the match something like 97 vs 97 instead of 99 vs 99.
