2016 Nationals Results

By MajorJuggler, in X-Wing

I'm really disappointed that someone should refer to it as "only the Dutch Nationals" in what appears to be a derogatory way. I hope that wasn't the intention but unfortunately that's how it read to me.

I'm sure the winner and indeed all the top players in Swiss had to fly well to get to that top 8 cut.

The meta is whatever the meta is, wherever you play. There are differences in Europe from the US that's very clear, but let's not get to the stage of running down events in other countries because they are different to our own perceived meta, as a community we are surely better than that.

Your response is much nicer and more eloquent than anything I was thinking of responding with for those two idiots.

Wish there was a place with all the results and links to videos, so there would be no need to search within the thread... :) I envy everyone, who can attend such amazing events. Here nothing happends - there's like 8 players in my biggest town in the country xD

I would like to second this. At Yavin, i played three of the Dutch guys who had come over for the event. One of them (who was in the top four here actually) was the only player to beat me, and the other two were also seriously good players. I believe two of them also made the top 8 cut (at a 400+ person event). These guys take the game very seriously and are some of the best players in the world. To belittle their national tournament, and/or their choice of lists shows how little knowledge you have about the world and this game.

Ah I think you played me then! What list did you play again?

We did very well at Yavin. We went there with 8 or 9 guys, of which 4 made the second day, of which 2 made the top 8, I was 10th, and the other one was still in the top32. And at the Kopenhagen Open Series I and another Dutch guy made the cut as welI. think I can safely say our level of play is on par with the rest of the world.

Congratulations to everyone who didn't take a Jumpmaster or Palpatine to their national champs. You are the true heroes and probably the better players.

Increasingly, I find myself not really caring who finished top as It seems it is usually going to be won by a broken netlist list with a low skill floor and a player who won the initiative/dice off in the mirror matches.

Tried watching some streams but got bored with the card games and fell asleep. Wake me up when someone fixes this nonsense.

so those who took Jumpmasters or Palpatine are not as good as the other "better" players out there?

what nonsense is this?

send someone who are not as good with a netlist that wins most tournaments out there and it won't guarantee that person will be unstoppable. have we all not played this game enough that on any match day it depends on your flying, match up, dice rolls etc

Fun fact: for all the jumpmasters haters out there, after taking top 8 at Yavin with Jumpmasters I took first and second place with palp aces at the following regionals. At the nationals I finished 1 after swiss but lost my top 8 match due to a rules oversight. But maybe Palp aces is another "no skill list".

The jumpmaster equals no skill argument is getting old. Or maybe I should say the "you not playing what I play equals no skill" argument.

Back to lurking :) .

Hey Pattison, I am the dutch guy who you played in the last round of swiss at Yavin! Yes, two of us made top 8 and three of us top 10.

that was a terrifying, terrifying game. honestly, refusing that ID was really, really hard. i remember in the second or third turn i was so nervous i was knocking my ships over and you said to me 'you could have avoided all this' and i was screaming inside. i was very glad you made it in anyway!

And here I thought it would be a gut-wrenching match.

*sarcasm*

Surprisingly rebels have won :)

It seems TLT meta stands still in our country and our closest European neighborhood. I've lost to 3xTLT+Biggs myself on the tournament...

I corrected a mistake on Louis' List ;)

TLTs worried me more than U-Boats in the tournament.

Still the lists were fairly diverse (despite the number of x7 defenders on the tables) :D ?

I had a lucky break against it with Triple Defenders but it was a hard match.

I don't think that's really diverse. Lots of little variation but mostly Palp lists, Jumpmasters and X7s.
