Mindlink Bots

By Smutpedler, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all,

Been playing a lot of mindlink lists recently and decided to play some brobots last night. Really enjoyed this list and my mistakes were mainly down to how infrequently I fly large base ships so I've decided to keep practising with it. Ideally I'd like to shave a point or 2 off for initiative bids (in case I meet more brobots) but can't really figure out where to do this. Really want to keep the HLC's and some sort of R1 cannon for B's ability and don't really want to swap the Adv. Sensors for FCS as the action economy with mindlink is fantastic and helps with being blocked. Open to any suggestions to give a try though :)

IG-88B & C (set up identically)

Attanni Mindlink

Advanced Sensors

HLC

Tractor Beam

Tittle

Auto(include)thrusters

50pts a peice for 100pts list total

I've been wondering about a mindlinked 88 list and this one looks nice in terms of what you can fit in 50pts. I'd be tempted to go less symmetrical and have one run mangler and advanced sensors, while the other runs HLC and FCS. As long as you choose maneuvers well, the action economy should persist.

Perhaps B with the mango gun to mess with target priority a little? Most people want to kill B first to get rid of the double tap but if he costs less points and is less of a threat that may make them think twice.

I'd simply lose Tractor Beam. If you really want a bid (not something you should worry about, though), that's the best cost/benefit trade off.

And, by experience, Bs always the priority target. A C with HLC without B's effect is a lot less scarier and synergistic, no matter how you twist it.

Points in a timed game may come into effect when choosing targets too...

I'd recommend that you drop the tractor beams to save the 2 points if that's a real concern. I understand how tempting the unique second cannon slot is, but the truth is that with 2 IG 88s you will virtually never be in a situation where firing the tractor beam is the correct decision. Think of it this way. If you are at long range shooting 4 red dice with the HLC is the best choice. If you're at short range shooting 4 dice again is the best choice. The only situation where having the tractor beam would be beneficial would be when you can use it to make a ship lose a shot or get chucked onto an asteroid.

That all said, with advanced sensors and mindlink you really have virtually no incentive to move first. So the enemy moves first and you bump. So what? You'll still have your actions.

Here's an idea on how you could take fuller advantage of mindlink and adv sensors.

IG-88B

Attani Mindlink

Mangler Cannon

Advanced Sensors

Conner Net

Autothrusters

IG-88D

Mangler Cannon

100 points

Advanced Sensors lets you use the Conner Nets really effectively, you can deliberately move up and bump your opponent one round and then drop the conner net in front of him the next. I put D in as he S-loop ability pairs well with the rest of the combo, but the others would be good options too. Dropping down to using Manglers isn't too much a big deal in terms of damage output over time, it just encourages you to close to range 1 faster.

So yeah, don't worry about initiative bidding, just presume that you always will NOT have the initiative and plan accordingly.

That's an interesting option. I never use bombs so often overlook them when list building. I think I'll give this variant a go sometime :)
