Poe, Stressbot, Lothal

By Zeodra, in X-Wing Squad Lists

What are everyone's thoughts on this build: Poe;VI,R5-p9,AT Gold Squadron; BTL-A4,R3-A2,TLT Lothal;Rire-Control Systems

What would be the most difficult build for my list to face?

Uboats with ordinance a big threat.

Uboats with ordinance a big threat.

Yes, Ordnance would burn down the Ghost fast making it hard for Poe and the Stresshog to clean up. U-boats are the big threat right now but the Empire will be doing the same trick once Veterans arrives with Deadeye Gamma Squadron Veterans.

There are a couple of things you could do to try and help. The first and most obvious suggestion is to drop the Stresshog and replace him with Biggs. Biggs with R4-D6 will normally take at least 3 torpedoes to kill and your opponent cannot target anything else until he is out of the way. With 3 torps gone, the Ghost should last long enough to dish out plenty of hurt with those big primary guns.

Alternatively, if you want to stick the the Stresshog, consider spending a couple of extra points to upgrade it to a Grey Squadron instead. The PS4 means would will be firing before U-boats at least. Then consider giving the Ghost Reinforced Deflectors instead of FCS. These are really worth their points against Ordnance as they can easily generate several shields over the course of the game. It could even take your opponent's entire supply of torpedoes to bring the Ghost down which will make life easier for Poe and Stresshog. Trying to kill Poe with Autothrusters using a 2-dice turret is not going to happen (plus he can regen shields).

34 Poe (31), Adaptability (0), R5-P9 (3), Integrated Astromech (0)

38 Lothal rebel (35), Reinforced Deflectors (3)

28 Grey Squadron Pilot (20), TLT (6), Stressbot (2)

Try this for size. I had to trim a few points off Poe to upgrade the other 2 ships but he still works pretty well in this configuration. Alternatively if you run Biggs with IA and an Astromech for 26 points, you can give Poe his Autothrusters back.

The trick against Ordnance-heavy lists is focus. If you are running a Biggs list, try to fire everything at one ordnance boat to kill it as fast as possible. If it dies with any torpedoes/missiles unfired, you are ahead.

If you are running a Stresshog list, you want the Stresshog to target a different ship to the rest of your list. With 2 Stress tokens, the ship the Stresshog targets will not be firing any ordnance next turn so the rest of your ships can ignore it for 1 turn and concentrate on killing a ship that will be a threat next turn.

I have really been messing with a list similar to this. I have actually moved away from the stressbot and generated this list instead:

26 Biggs (26), R4-D6 (1), Integrated Astromech (0)

36 Poe (31), Adaptability (0), R5-P9 (3), Autothrusters (2)

38 Lothal (35), Fire Control System (2), Hera Syndulla (1)

Not going to set the world on fire, but it is a lot of fun to play and lets me use Poe...which I miss.

I think that looks like a really strong list. With Biggs around, you can afford to skimp defense on the Ghost and concentrate on what it does best (shooting stuff with very big guns! :D).

Biggs protects the Ghost.

The Ghost hammers away at everything until it goes down.

Poe mops up the leftovers.

Profit! :)

I would like to think so! haha! The big thing is if the Ghost survives, you have to get targets in arc. I add Hera so I can really push the Ghost's turn and shoot. A lot of times the Ghost required me to be stressed...so add Hera and if it survives, I can really push the heck out of it to get shots on target with free TLs.
