Alternate uses for Youngster: Is +2 PS worth one point over generics?

So, Here's something I've been mulling over idly every time I consider taking Ties. While it seems that not even rage is worth using with Youngster at least from a competitive standpoint, one thing that stood out as I considered him. Youngster is only one point more than a Black Squadron Pilot, but has two more points of pilot skill, and keeps his Ept. That's not a bad deal. Obviously, it's dependant on the jump from PS 4 to PS 6 being relevant to the meta, but Brobots still exist. Is getting a Crackshot tie that can fire simultaneously with Brobots? I mean, they can always just go for the other ties first, but if you have the leftover point...

Thoughts, anyone?

Hm. An interesting thought on initiative bidding.

I would say it's probably not worthwhile unless it helps PS levels in the rest of your list - if you have a couple PS8 ships and are trying to squeeze one extra TIE in, you could slap VI on him and get simultaneous turn order. You could do the same for PS 7 and PS 5 with Adaptability, of course, though I'm not sure Imperials have a lot of value in that with their current squads (that tend to be PS 1-4 for swarms, or PS 8-10 for aces). Still, it's an option.

So: It's not crazy, and it's almost certainly a better purchase than putting VI on a Black Squadron, but you'd have to have a squad that justifies such a PS bid to start with. And on that, YMMV. A lot. ;)

I'd say it's not a terrible idea if you have the point to spare. You're basically putting VI on a Black Squadron while keeping the EPT slot free for Crackshot.

And you're not just gaining simultaneous fire with Brobots. You're putting Youngster at a level where he might be able to kill PS4 and PS5 pilots before they get the chance to shoot back. That can be helpful against things like Manaroo, Chopper, Biggs or Oicunn.

Consider the other options that point might be put to in your list. If you don't like any of them better than +2 PS, there's your answer.

If you want to squeeze Wampa in then I suggest dropping omega leader to another TIE. Any of the TIEs in my list are potent enough to be worthwhile.

It depends. Are you flying in a swarm? Because I think it benefits a Swarm to be mostly of the same PS type.

Yeah it was awesome. ;) It took me to top 8- and that was without ever having actually played it against an opponent before the tournament. :D

This is a PS bid against other Crackswarms. One couldreasonably expect to kill 1, perhaps 2 TIE Fighters before they fired back at you, and you've got the PS1 blocker.

I'd say it depends on the rest of your list, and how good you are at flying it. Having one ship with a different PS than the rest of the swarm can be *really* inconvenient if you get yourself into the wrong position...

Personally, I doubt it's worth it, especially when you have many ways with just BSPs, Omegas, APs and Howl to get exactly 100 point swarms.

Replace Darl Curse with Zeta Leader? ZL is awesome.

Lots of things you can do with The Inquisitor. He is missing 1 pt for PTL, but you can get him Juke if you want. That would leave him at PS 8, though. I kind of like him at PS 10. You have one more point for something.
The main weakness of elite Tie Fighter pilots is that they only have 2 attack dice. All these guys can boost their attacks by one.
