Voltron: Legendary Defender (Netflix)

Any one else watch this?

I binged this last weekend. It was great. And am really annoyed I have to wait for more episodes. The animation is great, and I think the Robeast battles are going to be highlights of the show. The few we got were amazing, and I like that they were a bit restrained on the use of Robeasts. I love the characters they've created and the relationships they have established. And definitely did some great teasing of the the world they are building.

Is it new or reruns of the 80's cartoon?

As a young fella I loved Voltron. Even though every episode followed the same formula: bad guys come, lions fight, lions lose, bad guy comes again, lions form voltron, voltron wins for a bit then loses, voltron makes sword, voltron wins.

Completely new. Very serialized storytelling. The first 11 episodes only have 2 Robeasts, but those fights have been fantastic.

I hadn't heard of it, but just watched the trailer. Looks ... really interesting! I think I'll check it out soon.

While I didn't watch Voltron in the 80's, I did love me some Shogun Warriors from the 70's. :P I've only watched the first two episodes of the new Voltron so far, but I love it. As others have said, the characters and interactions between them are great.

I used to love the show way back in the day as it was the first kind of anime that I could get. Yes, it was cheesy and I was sad Sven was booted for the pink princess, but there weren't that many shows back then.

I saw it on Netflix and was curious. Just yesterday I convinced my son to give it a try. "We can watch the first 5 minutes and see if we like it" is what he said. So....we sat down...and got about 30 min into it. He told me that it was one of his favorite shows right now. That's pretty cool!

Looking forward to watching more.

I find it amusing that our kids are growing up with exactly same stuff we did. Voltron, SW, Transformers, Point Break, Conan, etc.

Voltron is cars and tanks and helicopters d spaceships all taped together to form the vague outline of a giant robot.

It has nothing to do with metal lions.

Actually...

80s were the best!

Looks like I might have to check this one out.

and add it to the " IPs I wish FFG owned " list.

I know I've been tempted to break out my Voltron Monsterpocalypse stuff.

Which, with what the series has set up so far, an Evil Voltron is possible down the line...

You show how young you are with this statement. :)

Yeah. I consider it the lack of imagination of Hollywood. They would rather play it safe with reboots than come up with something new.

It was a trolltron for voltron.

Of course it's lions...its ways lions.

"Vehicle voltron" was never quite as good as lions.

To a degree yes. But Hollywood is going to make movies that make money. That's their business.

We, the consumers, have to take some ownership as we're clearly not interested enough in other projects to make it worth it their while. When was the last time we talked about a small theatre group or indie movie? I see plenty of talk about Avengers and the like though.

I'd wager my collection that most fellas here saw the Spiderman rebooted incarnation of a rebooted remake remade into a reboot movie yet had never even heard of any of the films that won a Sundance Film Festival award.

This is not a criticism .. just an observation.

Actually, I never saw the last reboot movies of Spiderman. I liked the one before and was tired of rebooted Spidermans. Then again, I haven't seen any Sundance movies, either.

Second season confirmed for later this year.

Good to hear. I watched it with my son and we both enjoyed it.

We haven't finished it yet. He's been away at camp or running off on overnight trips with the Mrs. We have been distracted by Stranger Things. One episode left in that. Oh, and Dr Who is close to caught up for us.
