I wrote a battle report of my experience with this list at a small spring kit tournament here... https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/218253-fat-han-and-jake-farrell-at-a-local-spring-kit-tournament/
I decided to take the same list to the regional tournament at Games & Stuff in Maryland. The list again:
Han Solo
(64)
- Predator
- C-3PO
- Luke Skywalker
- Millennium Falcon
- Engine Upgrade
Jake Farrell
(33)
- Veteran Instincts
- Push the Limit
- A-Wing Test Pilot
- Proton Rockets
- Autothrusters
Total Points:
(97)
I discussed my thoughts on the list in the previous battle report above. So I'll just get to the action. There were 108 people preregistered for the event. There were a few no-shows. I don't know the final attendance, but it was about 100 people. I did hear that there were 15 store championship byes used. My goal going into the tournament was 3-3, based my level of experience, and how tough I thought the field would be.
Round 1:
I am facing Dash and two Prototype A-Wings. Dash had VI, Outrider, HLC, EU, and a Mercenary Copilot. The A-wings had Autothrusters, and Prockets. I gave my opponent initiative. This game was pretty quick. The A-wings engaged first, but to no effect. They flew past as I was able to get both Han and Jake in range one of Dash. I used the procket, and Dash was dead a round later. Then I easily hunted down the two A-Wings. In the end Han still had a shield left and Jake was fully healthy. 100-0 Win. 1-0.
Round 2:
I am facing Glitter-Crack Brobots B and C. My opponent was one of the players who had used his store champ bye in round 1. So I knew this was going to be a test. I set up Han across from him, and Jake on the far side. My opponent declines to chase Han through the rocks, and instead pivots to trap the incoming Jake. However I am able zoom past with Jake and only take minimal fire while Han swoops in from behind. My opponent stressed his IGs with s-loops/glitterstims. This allowed me to keep Han behind IG-C while IG-B takes three rounds to get back in the fight. Jake also joins Han in tracking down IG-C. I kill C just as B rejoins the fight. IG-B dies shortly after. Han lost three shields, and Jake lost two. Another 100-0 Win. 2-0. At this point I am first place! I have a perfect MOV and the highest SoS.
Round 3:
I am now matched up against Palp, Soontir, and The Inquisitor. And my opponent is Jeremy Howard. Only one of the best players in the world with this list. I was able to give him the initiative. This game went pretty quickly. He managed to trap Jake and kill him while Han was still making his way to the fight. Then he expertly blocked the falcon over and over again while Soontir racked up the damage. The falcon lasted way longer than it should have thanks to
three
successful C-3PO guesses of 1 evade. But in the end I was only able to get one shield off of The Inquisitor. He was just playing on another level than me. He knew the matchup and exactly how to take me down. I did learn a lot that game. 0-100 Loss. 2-1.
Round 4:
I am matched up against another Palp, Soontir, and The Inquisitor. The exact same list as round 3. This time I fly Jake a little more cautiously, knowing how easily he can be blocked and killed by opposing aces. However the Falcon was taking massive damage while not putting anything back in the opponent. I held out as long as I could. But the falcon died without taking out an opposing ship. Now I've got 30 minutes left in the round with just Jake. I managed to run with Jake for 30 minutes to preserve the MOV. Unfortunately I still didn't have a plan to beat Palp Aces, but I did find another strategy that doesn't work. So I learned something once again. 0-64 Loss. 2-2.
Round 5:
I am matched against RAC Fel. RAC had VI, Palp, EU, Ion Bombs, and Extra Munitions. I gave him the initiative. The opening for this game went well. I got Fel trapped with both Han and Jake firing at him. However I did no damage. Fel ran and I put lots of shots into the decimator. However I made my only real flying mistake of the day, I put the Falcon in a spot to take an Ion Bomb, which lead him into a rock. The falcon only lived a little longer after that. I got the decimator down to 4 hull. But once again I was on the run with Jake. Jake survived the match to preserve some MOV. 32-64 Loss. 2-3.
Round 6:
I am matched against four TIE Advanced. Vader with ATC, Engine, Lone Wolf, and 3x Tempests with Accuracy Corrector. My opponent went after Jake, with Vader leading the charge. I controlled the first engagement getting Jake into range 1 of Vader for a procket, and Han also getting guns on Vader. He dropped in one round. Then Jake and Han easily arc dodged the tempests picking them off in no time. 100-0 Win. 3-3.
In the end I met my goal of 3-3 and finished in 32nd place. I played some really strong opponents with much more experience than myself. My opponents in round 3 and 4 both made the top cut. I learned a lot. And most importantly, I had a great time. I am looking forward to experimenting with different squads for a little while.
