It begins...

By Diabloelmo, in Star Wars: Armada

Swarm lists with CR90's are quite popular and effective. The minimum you need with that type of list is probably 3, assuming you supplement with MC30's or a Neb-B. 4-6 would not be unusual. But then you have to get the Turbolaser Reroute Circuits for the most competitive builds....which means buying more Mc30's.

How big is your wallet? ;)

This seems like a reasonable thread to ask in.

I have two of everything except the core set. Aside from wanting more squadron packs, I've had an itch to get one more of all of the small and medium ships (Do I want 3 ISDs? Obviously. Will I ever run them? That seems unlikely).

Problem is, I don't see myself running three Vics or AFs more than once for funsies. I'm most likely to get the other smalls, but with flotillas coming soon, I'm not sure having 4 nebs and cr90s, or 3 mc30s, Glads, and Raiders makes much sense either.

Are there really competitive or really fun lists for 3-4 of a single type of ship? My experience says 2-3 of any particular ship is enough to cover any situation, but my gut says "Shiny, shiny. More, more, more".

I'm just going to leave this here... :)

Here you see the key notch in the tail and the peg holding it was shaved down (I sliced at it with a hobby knife but filing works as well)

A secondary angle from the top.

I think the AF would look better if it was smaller, like 75% of its current size.

This is my mod of the AF. More engines, less "negative space". Lots of possibilities!

3 or 4 AF fleets are also a possibility, though will probably be less common once wave 3 hits. Need room for squadrons and flotillas!

That ought to help with winning the deployment battle if nothing else. Still, I would miss squadrons. It's just not Star Wars with out a fighter screen.

Dont pigeon hole yourself into that mindset. It has a tendency to mess with people and either give them overconfidence or just messes with them when someone does not bring any squadrons.

Oh, and please don't make a thread about "minimum squadron points" or such. . . Please I beg you.

This is definitely the best variant I've seen of the AssFrig mk2, I still think the mk1 is light years ahead of the Space Guppy in looks, but this version I don't hate.

. . . For some reason I don't like it. . . It feels off. . . Maybe because it seems too compact

The only small ships I would run more than two are the MC-30, CR-90, and Raider.

The Rebel Assault Frigate is a ship that genuinely makes me exceptionally happy, and rather depressed. It's a great ship, it functions well, and does fulfill a purpose as a very reliable jack of all trades cruiser that can be adapted for a number of roles. They aren't a 'required' ship, at least not in my opinion. You can do perfectly well without them and I can't think of any exclusive card that's a 'must have' either. MC80's, Mc30's, CR90's, and Nebulon B are all perfectly serviceable ships that allow for a vast number of different fleet types even without the presence of an assault potato.

The RAF is ugly. There's plenty of people who have bitten into that lump of uncooked haggis and now proclaim that it's beautiful and 'you just don't understand, you philistines!' They have to say that, they must, it keeps order in the universe. But it can look terrific if you want to adapt it. And by 'adapt' I mean cut it. I love cutting these things to pieces and reassembling it's bits into something at least more palatable to myself.

Inverting the tail like Ly-ly illustrated is all well and good, and it looks far better than it would otherwise look. But Rebel Assault Frigates are my excuse to get more experimental as I loath their guts. The RAF is a gateway into the dark side of the hobby.

Oh, that is glorious. I used to do a bit of conversion work back in the days when I played 40k, so I might need to break out the hobby knife and green stuff again if I ever wish to put a RAF on the table and not immediately hate myself for doing so.

Of course, I'm STILL agonizing over what to buy next now that I have the core set, and the RAF is fairly low down on my priority list.

That conversion and paintjob though. ****.

This solves everything! Good conversion!

40K's exactly where I got my start... -stares at the RAF and smirks- as you might be able to tell with some of the baubles. But that's exactly how I feel too, Diabloelmo mate. Break out the blades and grab the glue, it's well worth it.

You've basically got the right of it when it comes to prioritizing the Imperial side of things: ISD, GSD, squadron packs are terrific. Rebel wise, there's a lot out there that works.you mentioned the 2 Neb 2 MC30's with Jan and some X-wings, they work fairly well. I think I'd probably say that it's not a bad idea to get the extra Nebulon B for the Neb titles which are so great, but really, 1 Nebulon is often pretty good on its own. Still, for the short term: 2 Mc30 and one R&V pack is enough to get pretty close to what you described: TRC90, Nebulon carrier/flak escort, 2 kitted out torpedo frigates, 4 X-wings, Jan, and Dash with Rieekan, or Dodonna with a decent bid/scout MC30's.

2 Squadron packs, 2 Gladiators, and a standalone Victory will go far for Imps.
