Etiquetas for dice throwing?

By Zazaa, in X-Wing

I have been thinking this for quite some time already and I will ask about this now, are you guys thinking that there should be etiquet for dice throwing in tournaments?

I have encountered this one issue in tournaments that I have participated or witness through streaming, that person throws the dice and they fly all over the game mat and the worse thing that happens when they bump on ship and move them. I would kinda like to see warning system for this, like 3-5 times you move your or opponents ship by accident and you are out of the match or tournament.

Although this should be common sense when playing in competitive level that you should throw them so that there is no risk to change ship positions. This might sound pretty rough but it is still competitive level and some accuracy and etiquets are required for my opinion.

Or is this already in bigger tournaments? I never seen it or heard of this matter. Something that I hate a lot when happens!! :)

I would rather have someone bump a ship or two by really rolling the dice, than someone gently sliding the dice in their hand and gently sliding them out of their hand. I am an aggressive dice roller. Grab them, really shake them up in your closed hand, and let em roll!

I like shake my dice well too but I don't have to launch them on mid table towards the ships.. Most of the time those little bumps works against your game any way..

I like the idea of the app too, saw it only once, but I'm too much of a dice guy that can't get the same superstitions that I get from my own dice out of an app.. :D

Wookies have been known to leave bruises on opponents after throwing dice.

I throw them as hard as I can at my opponents chest so they bounce onto the mat. really I try and really shake them and roll them onto an open area of the mat.

But it does feel like that's the case for real sometimes!

I'd ban the app if I could.

But unless your oppponent is try to play 'Bowling for X Wings' and intentionally hitting ships its just part of the game.

Dice towers work pretty well.

There is no reason that there needs to be any real chance if hitting ships when rolling. Use a dice tray.

Maybe tournament dice trays... Would be good way to get streaming for the dice results finally too!

I really think that disruptive dice throw is reaaaaaaaaaaaally a lesser concern.
and, I'm the guy who had two K-wings broken in different occasions by a stray dice from the opponent.

it happens. the game got bumps (and bruises)

but sure, yeah, a little dice tray/cup can work miracles.

I really like Dice Trays, Dice Boxes and Dice Towers! :)

This is why I almost always use a dice tray. Cocked dice almost never happen and the dice never bump into ships.

Messy dice rolling is pretty annoying but not as bad as long winded dice shaking.

At about the 6 or 7 second mark it starts to drive me insane. "Did you just nod off? Have you had a micro-stroke?"

Yeah! I totally agree with you, but still it is not that dangerous for the game in that sense.

But I disagree with statements that it is just "part" of the game, it is just sloppy playing and not really respectable way to play!

Windows Phone. :/

I use a dice tray like a civilized person. I'm not just some sort of animal that rolls dice in the playing area and knocks ships and asteroids around, I'm a human being **** it!

I really never thought this was a problem... How hard are you people throwing dice??? I've never had my dice scatter more than a few inches unless one comes away from my hand while shaking?

Last year I was in a small tournament in which I rolled so poorly for every single game, that I downloaded the app as I was leaving the store in some kind of vain scream at RNGesus for screwing with my dice. I proceeded to roll just as poorly on the app, with an alarming frequency and pattern. Haven't quite trusted it enough to break it out in a game, since.

Dice trays are from an older more civilized age.

Also throwing my tablet with the app really hurts.

As a new X wing player coming from the wargame side of things, I was shocked and dismayed when I saw/see people rollin dice on the table. Trays, glasses, towers, something should be required, especially in a game where piece position is so critical and not determined by hexes or other artificial structure.

I don't like the idea of the app, I want to roll dice, if I wanted to use electronic devices I would play computer games. Even though it's an FFG product I would prefer my opponent sling dice rather than push buttons. There are many options, ie a box, you can roll into to save the destruction of your fleet. Ships tend to flow to certain areas of the board, roll not on that side and there shouldn't be an issue.

After they rolled blanks for the last time yell out either "Duck" or "Heads Up" to give people warning then while screaming profanities in a very incomprehensible manner throw dice as hard as you can preferably towards a trash receptacle.

and that is how you politely throw dice. :P
