The Five Stages of X-wing Grief

By Rekkon, in X-Wing

This started as a joke at the Fargo Regional yesterday, and I decided to finish it for posting.

Denial

I cannot believe my dice today!

Anger

Of course it was a Direct Hit. Why wouldn't it be?

Bargaining

I just want to kill one ship, that's all. One ship.

Depression

I don't know why I even bother coming to tournaments.

Acceptance

I guess I did learn a few things.

----------------------------------

Other amusement:

"Cardboard tokens were good enough for our immigrant ancestors, they should be good enough for us!"

Which of course lead to a bunch of "when I was your age" X-wing comments.

"Vassal? Pah. When we wanted to play X-wing, we had to walk five miles, uphill both ways through snow and broken glass without shoes, and we only had one wave."

"We didn't have Palpatine. Whatever you rolled was what you got. Target lock hadn't been invented yet, and the only focus we had was how much attention we paid to our maneuvers.

"Prepainted? We had to whittle new ships by hand."

Edited by Rekkon

How about this one: "I just bought that ship."

Without fail my new ships go down in flames every time. Every. Single. Time.

"Wait now, Wampa does what? But.. I evaded..?"

It was good hanging out and playing against you yesterday! Your mindlink list was really innovative and you went undefeated in swiss right?

five stages of x-wing grief:

  1. where's the next wave?
  2. where's the next wave?
  3. where's the next wave?
  4. yay! it's the next wave!
  5. where's the next wave?

five stages of x-wing grief:

  • where's the next wave?
  • where's the next wave?
  • where's the next wave?
  • yay! it's the next wave!
  • where's the next wave?

Step #4 is lacking the speculation about the next wave. I swear to god some people around here, the day of the spoiling/release of one wave they're already begging for spoilers for the next one.

***** I still haven't flown a Mist Hunter yet, slow down please. Veterans isn't even out yet and wave 9 has been spoiled already. Can't we just play with what we have for a while for once? Are 8 waves of ships not enough for you?!

not until we have the ARC, no

silly wings > all things

Back in the old days when I was playing this game and all we had was wave 1, we had Vassal in just a couple weeks of the game's release.

Already working on Ryad now. Because apparently that's the only way I'm getting Veterans.

Aye. I was a bit worried about Dual Aggressors since I had not faced them with my list, but I handled two of them while only losing a single ship each time if memory serves. Manaroo really fraks with their precious FCS. Interestingly the first Aggressor list was also using Mindlink.

At this point you, the player of the game, just has to accept that Soontir had decided it was his time to enter the great beyond, your own intentions as a player are secondary to his desires. You didn't fail, soontir/whisper did.

Sky is falling

There's that moment when it suddenly clicks that the expected release date is always 6 months earlier than the actual release date.

New player "q3, that could be September!"

Older/ more jaded player "q3? That means March next year."

My edit...

1) Where's the next wave announcement?

2) The next wave is going to break the game with OP ships!

3) Where's the boat carrying the next wave?

4) Yay! It's the next wave!

5) Where's the next wave?

Denial

I am sure this next wave will arrive on time.

Anger

Why don't we have the new expansions already? Were they sent via rowboat?

Bargaining

I just want that one card for my next tournament.

Depression

Why must FFG torment us so?

Acceptance

Add six months to the next ETA.

Back in my day, we didn't have any of your namby-pamby "maneuvers". You just went straight! And if you missed your opponent, you'd fly the entire length of the galaxy until space folded back on itself like a giant Pac-Man game and you ran into your opponent again for a second pass!

And we liked it that way, dagnabit! It built character!

How about this one: "I just bought that ship."

LOL. Also, something about fresh acrylic paint being highly explosive. If I just painted a ship... It's a magnet for Direct Hits.
