Poll (eventhough there is no poll option) on the lay-out of the forums

By DanteRotterdam, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I hope to fnd out the opinions of other posters here and perhaps (if there is a majority that think along the same lines) get the people at FFG to change the board lay-out a bit. It might be wishful thinking but I am not looking for "they will never do it" because the set-up now means high traffic on the EotE boards and low to medium traffic on the boards of Age and FnD. With even less on the beginner game and GM boards.

Poll:

I would like for the FFG Star Wars RPG boards to:

1. Be grouped together in one board for all three lines.

2. Remain seperated by line but not in seperate GM/beginner game boards.

3. Be as they are now and remain unchanged.

4. Be grouped together in one board for all three lines. But don't stop there and do the same for the End of the World boards.

I vote #2.

That said, I do wish questions and topics relating to items from the AoR and F&D lines would stay out of the EotE threads. So I see why you'd want to run this poll.

Q1: 1. With some extra details A single all encompassing Starwars Roleplaying Sub Forum, with:

general discussion board

GM board

Rules Question board for each line

Beginner Game board

Play by Post board

Unfortunately I doubt that will happen because you would need some place for the existing forums to go, and Members would need to be given access to relocate a thread to the correct place

I'm honestly not trying to start trouble. But I do believe it merits discussion...

"It" being the decision by FFG to separate their SW RPG into three separate lines.

Because anyone who votes for option #s 1 or 4 *obviously* has a problem with the three-way split. So another question should probably be "Do you believe a 2nd edition should just incorporate all aspects of the three lines?"

Q2. No, I like the 3 seperate lines.

I agree, I'd really like to see one board now. The AOR forum is basically just 'let's plays' at this point.

We've bought all the books FFG, can we stop pretending it's three separate games now?

Give the game a proper title (even if it's just 'FFG Star Wars RPG' and have one board.

(PS. Are people actually playing 'End of the World'???)

I would like to see the three lines condensed into one main forum with subforums for GMs, Rules Questions (one for all three lines), and PbP.

I agree with Richardbuxton about the lines being separate. The 3 lines are thematically different enough, in terms of gameplay and roleplay and slight additions to the rules, that putting them all into one book would just make the book even thicker.

Rather than a 2nd edition containing all 3 lines, a distillation of the rules and mechanics of the game (from the CRBs and supplements) could be put into a smaller book that contains less flavor material and more technical material. Once the characters are created, there's no need to lug around that big heavy book or two or three. A pure rulebook would be all you need to have with you at your sessions.

I like option 1 if the GM section can remain a sub-board. I see the logic in keeping the lines separate but what that really means is that I don't visit the AoR or FaD forums nearly as often.

All in one!

Given that the three lines are essentially identical, I think the split is entirely unnecessary; and I can't even fathom why they chose to make separate boards for the beginner games.

I also don't see the need for separate boards for GM's and Rules Questions, though I wouldn't mind seeing the play-by-posts have their own area.

I can't even fathom why they chose to make separate boards for the beginner games.

I bet it has a lot to do with the audience. Seems like a combined forum would be a lot for new people to take in, and the game really seems geared to teach people who have never roleplayed before.

For me, I support #1, with a GM sub-board and IC/OOC sub-boards for online PBP.

I understand that people want PBP, and I confess that I might want to do that myself at some point, but right now I’d rather not have those posts mixed in with the regular forums.

If FFG supported a tagging system, so that they could have one main forum for everything related to SWRPG, with tags for each type of post, then I could subscribe to the tags that I like and not have to see the ones I don’t.

That would solve the problem for both sides of the house, where some people want a unified “one stop shopping” for everything related to the game, while others want to keep things as they are.

I think 4 sounds good

I definitely agree with this.

So 1

I'm on the side of 1, and like most people, think there should be subboards. I think there should be a subboard for the three lines insofar as there are questions that really only pertain to the materiel of that line ("how do I handle this holocron!?" for example), but it really annoys me that the EotE board is the go-to for questions of a more general nature. It's really counter intuitive, and before I figured it out I'd put my general questions in the FaD board, since that's what I played, only to have them not be adequately answered.

I also agree that there should be a separate PbP area. Less so because "get these dirty roleplayers out of my discussion forum" and more so that they can be easily found by people wanting to join or read them, or even just to see how active the PbP community is on these forums.

Let me be honest here, I like the seperate lines. I just don't like the seperate forums.

Oh, and we play End of the World as one shots all the time and it is hilarious!

I haven't played EotW, so I'll go with you there on what should be done, change my vote to 4 but keep the comments.

#1, but with a separate board for GM´s and a separate board for PbP.

#4.

End of the World is a great RPG line. As stated previously it is really only good for one shots, but boy, those one shots can be fun. I, for one, want one main forum, with three subsections (Edge, Age, and Force and Destiny). Basically rearrange how easy it is to access the board for each line. (I have each forum bookmarked.) General questions and discussions would exist in a general area, with three easy-to-access, sub-forums for each line.

Well, I don't think FFG really listens to feedback on their forums. We have all be asking-and then-screaming about certain aspects for years now, and about the the only thing we have gotten was the "new" look and that seems to be about as popular as "new" coke was in the '80's. As far as message boards go, this one is pretty bare bones.

Now with all that in mind, I can't recall the forum ever being down for maintenance, we don't get hit with spam a lot or fake accounts often, and when we do, the Admins are quick to respond, and my account has never been hacked, or had any trouble with my account.

But yes, I don't frequent the AoR or FaD boards at all. I would like to see the lines more encompassed into one board somehow so I can see what is going on with them too. And custom avatars as well!

I'm honestly not trying to start trouble. But I do believe it merits discussion...

TBH, I kind of agree with the above. Personally I would have had 'Star Wars Roleplaying' as a single CRB - Rules and a few, maybe two, 'Universal' style Specs from each of the 'lines' that covered the basic aspects of SW.

AoR, EotE & FaD still release books as separate 'lines' but thinner, just expanding the Careers/Specs, equipment and additional background info associated with that 'line' or aspect of Star Wars. Would have been a lot easier than transporting three CRBs AND splat books to/from game...

But as it stands, I would vote 1 (don't really want to see a 2nd ed, it just doesn't warrant it, especially now that so many of us have bought most of the books)

I believe that having three different lines was an excellent touch. Star wars, at least to me, needs to be separated by themes. I would rather many specific books than one, broad rulebook that did not cover much.
