Playing casually with Et'ahn and noticed something.

By BlueMusketeer28, in X-Wing

I have recently done battle with a pair of imperial aces and in both cases I took Et'ahn with Corran and Cracken and relized something, Et'ahn after turtling is really useful. He makes an unappetizing pilot to attack when stronger, easier to hit ships are around, but at the same time makes it much easier to push crits through. Now maybe I got lucky, but in every game the crits from Et'ahn ended up more or less crippling the ace, making it much easier for my ships to drag them into their sights and finish them off. I think Et'ahn has real potential against both lightly shielded aces or swarm lists, since the trick to beating a swarm with aces is making sure the swarm never gets a full attack. For what it's worth the team was:

Et'ahn Abhat: PTL, Sensors, R2 Astro

Corran Horn: VI, FCS, R2-D2

Cracken: au naturale

P.S. I know this list isn't competetive but I have wanted to fly 2 E-Wings together for a while and figured why not. I was just impressed by how in every game Abhat did serious work.

I choose this thread ;)

I am sure Etahn A'baht will be a big player once E-wings are fixed

Pair him with Ten Numb.

I have played this list a few times, have managed to kill aces fairly easily like Fel. All you need to do is stay in arc and you get a crit on an unshielded ship, here's to hoping for the direct hit love. Saying this I have had it done back to me with Numb on my Jax. Guy did 1 crit which was a direct hit, my poor flying flew him into an asteroid and killed him dead, was like my 5th game ever, but you remember the dumb moves that kill you.

Pair him with Ten Numb.

Bit too pricey to put much else in the list and Ten's too easily focused to be worth putting too many upgrades on him.

Ethan gets better the more ships you have - so he provides the quality which you then want to combine with quantity

Nice to see 3 rookies in a list in this day and age :)

I'd prefer to be shooting a little earlier than PS2 in world dominated by Das Boot - but then again, you'd probably just fly this as a casual list anyhoo

That is one thing I was quite disappointed with last week at Yavin - I never had the opportunity to test my 5Ks out against against Kris Kross.

Just a note to a lot of these lists. What I found best about Et'ahn is that the enemy was too busy quick killing Cracken and trying to focus fire down Corran to pay the turtles E-Wing any mind. This allowed Et'ahn to play very aggressively at critical junctions without risking his ship, and made him vital, since the imp aces were turtling so often Corran only pushed one hit through (defender had hot dice, mine not so much.) with Et'ahn that hit counted for even more than usual though. Anyway I worry on a generic list. The priority shift would make him less useful.

This is one of my favourite lists to play (I don't have a wing expansion but do have aces and a separate a wing)

A-Wing: · Gemmer Sojan (22)

Actually beat a rebel 2x65 and a 70 list in a tournie. Is good fun to fly and benefit from range 1 so changing any hit to a crit is epic

I have flown this a few times it has been fun, but not sure if it would be competitive. I had been flying Etahn with Ten Numb....but wanted to try something different.

I've seen Etahn with Biggs before. I you want to protect Etahn, there pretty much isn't a better way to do it!

Doing it that way makes Et'ahn one hell of a ship to shoot down. Et'ahn can turtle up with the best tie fighters and Biggs is well Biggs. The secret is I think I suck with Biggs. Don't get me wrong I've used him effectively before, but I always feel like I want the super ace he's supposed to bodyguard at range one, but at that range Biggs gets butchered. And since he enemy knows we are going to be in formation, and most pilots I protect with Biggs have higher PS they know where I am going. This has let me do some cool feints where Biggs breaks and the ace doesn't follow, leaving a pursuing foe overly vulnerable, but you still will lose Biggs and his much needed firepower.
