All guts and no glory " will this work"

By Jondavies72, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Having been a proponent of high activation ship heavy lists for some time, I'm wonder if the ultimate express of this could work in a heavy fighter ( reikin, ryhmer) meta. This is because I'm starting to feel sorry for my small tie screen of 4-6 ( well it's more irritated at giving away the points to be honest)......so five activations no fighters......

Two ISD 2 with leading shots and gunnery teams

3 naked raiders

Led by motti

Benefits..... Fire power and hull points

Risks..... Lack of deployments and no control of enemy bombers ( barring brute AAA fire power)

Thoughts........is the whole thing bonkers.......

PT has won two regionals with a very similar list....

I beat him with Garm

That's interesting, I take it you managed to overwhelm with rebel bomber attacks ? My main concern is the pure damage output from a load of bombers and the inability of ISDs to get away from them, I've At least got a fighting chance of running an engine tec speed three glad away.

Went to speed 3 and ran around always at red range of isd with first player

So the list still plays better with first player, just like a five activation demo list...... Interesting

It does play better with first player, however with this type of fleet there are no points left for a bid. However it plays pretty well as second player (you can select some nasty objectives and threaten two ships with ISDs so at least one is still in danger after opponent's first activation. I almost always ended up doing several black range frontal shots from ISDs even as a second player)

Note that your fleet is 418 points as configured. I ended up doing ISD1s with Intel/OE and found that I prefer ISD1s to ISD2s in this type of fleet. It is essentially an ISD fleet that flies like DeMSU.

A lack of deployments can be somewhat mitigated by objectives (for example in Contested outpost scenario you know where your opponent fleet will be eventually)

As far as squadrons are concerned, only a heavy bomber force is a serious threat (Essentially extra 1 or 2 rounds of squadron fire are mitigated by extra 9 hull compared to a DeMSU). Even then AS fire can't be discounted (4.6 average hits in close range from 2ISDs and 1 raider. If both raiders somehow happen to be in range, avg damage jumps to 6.1).

And this list IS fun to fly :)

And thanks for the input and experience, I may give it ago after regonals ( will use my well practiced list for that) as I do love five ships and ISDs are my favs so it's win win......

I do have a regional AAR report with this fleet

One more thing. On ISD1 OE is a better pick than leading shots unless the plan is to do medium range engagements most of the time.
