First attempts at X-Wing Squadron detail-adds

By VaeVictis, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

We've been playing a lot of Heroes of the Aturi Cluster, and I thought it would be fun to add some of the New Hope-style yellow and red mark-ups to the X-Wings so they would stand out from one another.

Then over half the people played Y-Wings anyway.

Regardless, I did four of them. Despite the fact that my hands shake too much and made it hard to knock out the droids and squadron tails, but overall I was pleased, given that I hadn't painted in a while and the details were so small. They look good from a distance, so that works. I'm waiting for a new batch of magnets to magnetize the last one, but it will get a magnet eventually. I repainted the yellow on the nose of the Rebel Transport model so it would match the rest of the ships. I want to redo that nose line, but I'll probably have to tape it or something.

I used the New Hope X-Wings as inspiration, but didn't try to re-create any of them. These are just four generic 3, 4, 5, and 6 X-Wings.

A little "formation" shot.

If anybody's interested in the rest of my work (mostly True Scale Space Marines and other 40K conversions), or in the narrative Battle Reports from Heroes of the Aturi Cluster, you can check out my blog.

They look great, just started to paint my ships aswell.
Hope to see more stuff

I hate to necro an old thread, but this looks a lot like what I wanted to do. How did you pull this off?

Vallejo Model Color Flat Red (70 957) and Yellow Ochre (70 913)

Then I just looked up images of the original models from 1977 for inspiration on inventing my own markings,

Great job on these. I really want to differentiate my x-wings by adding the ship number markers hashes on the wing but I want the colour to blend. I'm also a little worried about how bad it might look if I tried to paint the astromechs myself. Those are the only two details I want to paint on my own ships. Any tips for those?

Nice work!

The upside is the paint on the figs is sealed. You can wipe off your mistakes. So just be slow and patient. Or, be like me, and just be willing to accept when it isn't perfect. My astromechs are basically just little dabs of color and a black spot for the main eye lens. More to approximate detail on the droids than try to replicate the droid schemes.
