Kroot Mimic Talent

By SydReeve, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

Hey all,

So, I was making up a Kroot character the other day, and noticed they get access to the Mimic talent. While this made sense to me, when reviewing the actual text of the talent, it says that you are unable to use it to mimic xenos (which seems silly and I may houserule away anyways, but I'm looking at RAW first). In the case of the Kroot does this mean that they're unable to use it to mimic humans, or alternatively only able to use it to mimic humans and not other Kroot?

I'd probably argue both. As they eat people, their DNA changes, and they may become more human-like. In this way, as they gain more human qualities, the talent might let them treat both as available, as they sort of have the DNA/genetic memories of both species. I'm AFB, at the moment, and just sort of making this up, but it seems plausible to me, as they acquire more and more human genetic identity.

I suppose that does bring up a sub-question I'd been struggling with: How quickly do kroot incorporate DNA? Some sources seem to interpret it as something that happens on an individual level, whilst others seem to interpret it as something that only happens from passing on consumed genetics to offspring, so each generation is altered but the original consumer isn't (relevant for the long term play of a Kroot character). The Into the Storm rules for Kroot seem to lean towards the 'next generation' interpretation given you can only choose the "you are what you eat" traits as a background and the only rules for eating things in game play are some temp wounds and faster healing (I would expect something more akin to the transgenic grafting rules from DH).
