IG-88 + Prince Xizor

By ChewfalconSolo, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey all.

I'm going to field these two at some point. Shadows of the Empire is still one of my favorite games to play.

These two are the main villains. So who wouldn't want the theatrical aspect of it?!

Here's what I've been cooking up so far:

IG-88B

Mangler Cannon

HLC

VI

Autothrusters

Accuracy Corrector

Glitterstim

Prince Xizor

Virago

Autothrusters

Predator

Sensor Jammer

Cloaking Device

The idea here is to have IG-88 attacking at range, while Xizor is up close. Using the cloak to his advantage. When Xizor is threatened, I move IG-88 in to hopefully shed some damage onto IG-88 seeing as he can take more hits.

Mangler and HLC is a filthy, and wonderful combo. The Virago goes in to arc dodge like a fiend. The Agressor can as well thanks to Autothrusters.

Anything you guys see which I could change?

Perhaps even a dual IG-88 build I could use as well as this?

Any and all help is appreciated.

First, about IG88-B:

Two cannons equipped is a waste of points, you can fire the same cannon twice with his effect (provided that you missed the first attack). This setup of yours is wasting a whopping 11 pts on secondary weapons alone.

Accuracy Corrector is likely the worst possible choice for a Systems Upgrade on any IG.

Veteran Instincs from PS6 to PS8 doesn't add up much value.

Now, about Xizor/IG:

You want the companion piece to Xizor to be an unattractive target that can keep up with Xizor without getting in his way. My suggestion would be:

Prince Xizor (31):

  • Veteran Instincts (1)
  • Autothrusters (2)
  • Virago (1)
  • Fire-Control System (2)
  • Glitterstim (2)

Total: 39 pts

IG88-C (36):

  • Predator (3)
  • Sensor Jammer (4)
  • Autothrusters (2)
  • Glitterstim (2)

Total: 47 pts

Black Sun Soldier (13):

Total: 13 pts

99 pts, 3-ship squad.

BS Soldier is a cheap blocker and your initial meat-shield for Xizor. Play him aggressively, searching for block opportunities, but try to keep him at R1 of Xizor for as long as possible.

IG88-C is a better companion for Xizor due to how unappealing of a target he can be. This setup is focused on survivability without taking away offensive power. Know when to pop Gstim and it should pay in dividends.

Xizor is built for an ideal 1v1 situation. PS9 is great on him (even more now that PS8 is a thing), FCS is action-economy that allows you to explore the knife-fighting movement that the SV offers and Gstim is for when you reposition on a key turn at R1 of something or when under heavy fire without friendlies around.

Would there be any way to fit Mangler Cannon on here? Or would it be a waste of points with the list you made?

4 points for the same front-arc 3 red dice (if you're at R1, it's actually a losing trade), with a small modification that does nothing to improve your chances of actually landing the hit.

Yeah, I'd call it a waste of points.

Why not IG-88A. Sensor jammers and shield respawning, of at least think, would create some additional survivability.

There's also a card in wave IX that allows other ships to benefit from the IG-2000. I don't think they said it was only for a wave IX ship, but it'll be interesting to see what that looks like.

IG-C's effect provides a makeshift shield (in the form of the evade token) per turn, while encouraging knife-fighting and repositioning (for R1 attacks, among other things). Hence why I prefer it over A, who's not guaranteed to deliver the killing blow every other round.
