3 Xs + Z

By Stoneface, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Throwing together a fun list. Looking at:

Blount + Thread Chasers

Tarn Mison + R7 + IA

Hobbie Klivian + Targeting Astro + IA

Biggs + R5-P9

Hobbie can k-turn, stress, get a TL then shed stress.

Blount gives everybody a TL. Once

Tarn screws with the attacker's dice.

Biggs is Biggs. Hopefully P9 will let him live a little longer.

Thought about Dreis but couldn't find a mech for him that I liked. Also considered Porkins with R5-D8 allowing him to discard face down damage cards.

I'd appreciate any comments. I realise this isn't a tourney busting build but it should be fun. Very few people I know fly 3 toilets.

Duplicate post. Something is going on with FFGs website.

First, Biggs really wants IA as well. If you've only got two of them I'd move the one from Mison onto him, because Mison is pretty survivable anyway and it's unlikely people will target him first. Biggs will be taking fire so he needs the HP.

R4-D6 might be better than R5-P9; again, Biggs will be taking fire, so it's almost a certainty you'll need the focus token for defense.

I like Blount in a swarm build, but I'm not sure he's at his best here. If you could fit torps on the X-wings he'd be great, but I don't see that happening with the points you have. If you swap R5-P9 to R4-D6 you could upgrade to Cracken with Adaptability and the Tracers; he's not guaranteed to hit with the tracers, but he's a lot better past the initial engagement for supporting your X-wings.

I just didn't list the IA on Biggs but it's there. Using R4-D6 is anticipating a lot of 3+ hits in one shot. Maybe R5-D8 would be a better choice or the mech that increases agility. I could swap out Tarn for Garven. He can give his focus to Biggs allowing three greens and a focus but the squad is at the mercy of PS7+. With the D6 droid Biggs could theoretically last through a max of three rounds.

The idea was to have Blount tag the biggest threat or highest HP ship then unlease 9 - 12 red dice. After the initial volley it becomes a dogfight. I like the idea of Cracken supporting Biggs though.

R5-P9 becomes a lot better if you've got someone like Garven in the squad who can pass Biggs extra focus. R4-D6 is very good against torpedo boats, but if those aren't in your meta his value drops quite a bit. R2-F2 (the agility mech) is generally pretty terrible; focusing is statistically almost always better than using him. Only exception to that is if you've got someone like Garven or Kyle Katarn to give him focus tokens (Cracken works too), but even then he's overpriced for what he does. R2-D6 and Determination is another option for keeping him alive; Determination isn't exactly dependable but it's saved my bacon more than once.

My reasoning with Cracken was that the tracers are usually going to be used against something with a lot of HP, like you said; those ships tend to have low agility, meaning the Tracers have a decent chance of hitting without Blount's ability. My personal inclination would be to go for a ship that can maybe support over several turns over a ship that's guaranteed to support once, at least in this build.

unused EPTs can be turned to adaptability, leveling out all your PSs might be a good option.

The mix in this area for casual play is about 75/25 in favor of arc dodgers, hence Blount. You're right about Cracken being better in the long game. Maybe I'll rethink the squad for 2X and 3Z and see what that looks like. It sucks that I have to employ the lowest skilled x-wing pilots in order to get a somewhat decent build.

I have a similar list:

The X-MEN

---------------------

Hobbie Klivian: 25

Targeting Astromech: 2

Integrated Astromech: 0

Biggs Darklighter: 25

R5 Astromech: 1

Integrated Astromech: 0

Tarn Mison: 23

R7 Astromech: 2

Integrated Astromech: 0

Rookie Pilot: 21

R2 Astromech: 1

Integrated Astromech: 0

100pts

Tarn, in my experience, is the best pilot in this list. He's a terrific pilot and a late game all-star (if he survives that long!).

I really want to like TA/Hobbie but haven't had much luck with him yet. Not sure if he's just lackluster or I just suck at flying him. If only he had an EPT!

Biggs is just there to keep fire off the rest of the boys (especially Tarn and Hobbie who benefit in the late game once the enemy has been thinned out some). R5 is by no means the best astromech for Biggs, but it's cheap enough to leave you 22 points left over for...

The Rookie Pilot. With a cheap R2 astromech and IA he's not a bad little filler ship. Biggs and the Rookie are there to take the heat off of Tarn and Hobbie and keep them alive till the late game (the Rookie can also be swapped for a Blue Sq Pilot if you'd rather have a B-wing).

This isn't a killer Tourney list or anything (probably have trouble with U-boats, PalpAces, and Phantoms), but is a cool Fly Casual list.

That's what I was going for: A fun fly list. Just want something to screw with an opponent's mind a little bit and have fun doing it. Try out some new droids.

I think too many of the commenters poop on the use of the X-wing for being over costed, not having post maneuver repositioning, low survivability and yadda yadda yadda. This is a game! I'm not going to Worlds or Regional. I'll fly it in my basement or at the FLGS and have fun.
