Begging for XP Talent Trees

By RebelDave, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

If I understand correctly, the Begging for XP Talent trees (as wonderful as they are) are unlikely to get updated anytime soon, because the author has switched systems....

If someone can tell me what font/s they used, I can then cobble together my own for my group.

I know it seems a bit... OCD, but I like my paperwork to match on the table.

If however, I am mistaken, I apologise, and if the original author would rather I try not to emulate the look of their work, I will refrain :)

Cheers!

RD

Right, wouldn't want to seem OCD on this forum, that would be weird! People would probably shun you and call you names!

I am usually pretty good at recognizing typefaces, but I'm not certain which one he used. I'll either take a look, figure it out, and let you know, or (probably more likely) make up my own trees and try to find a way to distribute them.

I'll get back to you!

Hey, there you go!

Unfortunately, letting me know that new ones in that style won't be coming out any more has put me in an incredibly awkward position. I was hoping to have FREE time this weekend...

Cannot confirm there wont be new ones, just got the impression from another Thread on Talent Trees that the creator was not currently running this system... but I could be misunderstanding.

I needed a new project, so figured it would be nice to make my own.

OK, so the title fonts I have ... but the talent titles themselves is not the same..

You could try sending a PM to Doc, the Weasel to confirm whether or not he'll be making new ones.

And what font he used. Even if he's not creating new ones, he might be willing to divulge his secrets.

Ahhh.... I was labouring under the impression it was FangGrip who made them.... I could be very wrong then!

Thank you!

Certainly will do!

PM has been sent, will see what he says... but that said, if he doesn't want me emulating his work, I will not do so.

To satisfy my OCD I might have to redo them all, not that I want to! That's a lot of work!

If however, he is not updating them, and if he is OK with me doing so, and IF he is OK with me sharing them.. I shall do.

Fixed that for you!

Nerf Herders.... I've been working from a different persons Talent trees to the ones I actually use (Which are Docs).

What a plonker..... OOh well... start again...

Oh no, have I finally wandered my way into your cross hairs, Herr Penguin, or is this more of a one-time thing?

I spoke with Doc not 2 days ago about this very issue and can confirm the sad news that he has moved onto a different game. Since he has no reason to purchase these books anymore he has stopped updating the pdf's. He still regularly visits the FFG forums so if you PM him I'm sure you'll get an answer as to which font he uses. If you do then please post here so I can also create rough copies myself :P

Ahha, so my suspicions were right.

Ont the plus side! His are less complex, so creating more to fit his style (If he tells me the fonts), I should be able to fill the gaps :)

If all else fails, OggDude's generator has a feature that allows you to print just the specialization tree with areas to make tick marks.

I have never quite gotten my head round Oggs generator, partly because I've never quite understood how it works, partly because my group prefer to do manual builds, and partly because it seems too big for my brain to cope with sometimes....

To be fair, I have never really give it much of a look, but when I did it highlighted my confusion with the Obligation system that I still don't quite... 'get'

Not if he does not update it... (which he hasn't since April 1st).

The whole point of why people liked Begging for XP (or at least me and my group did) was that the PDFs it had you could copy the text from. OggDude's printed sheets are pictures and therefore the text is not selectable. For people using Roll20 or any other VTT the OggDude method hinders the speed of inputting new talents.

Unfortunately, I don't have that font... and its expensive to buy.

So while I can probably do a reasonable cut and paste job for the graphics (If Doc is OK with that), I will not be able to get the fonts exactly the same.

The font is indeed Eurostyle.

The door isn't shut for updates, buying the books for a game I'm not playing just to update the sheets isn't really feasible right now. I was talking to someone on this board about a possible patreon to fund the books and some of the hosting costs, but I've been very busy between family, planning my next campaign, and Overwatch to make anything happen.

Good to hear from your Doc,

As much as I would love to buy you books for updates, thats not an option for me.

If someone would buy me the fonts I could fill the gaps for you, but I don't think anyone's going to do that (or even give me a copy!)

If there is any other way I can help tide the community over until your potential return, let me know :)

Irrelevant since we know he is actively working on an update. This next release will have the reporting feature (which I am greatly anticipating), then he is going to work through his backlog.

You have very good points on using Doc's sheets vs OggDude's. I I had not consider copy/paste functionality.
