Can one ship shoot at more than one Target ?

By Barry Harker, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello Guys.

Just wanted to Clarify something.

We all come up against those Players that have "there version of the rules"

this is to do with the Combat Phase "Declare Target"

in the rules it states......

Declare Target

During this step, the ATTACKER (the active ship) must declare its TARGET (the ship he wishes to attack)

Now then,

Some ships can fire Twice, The Y wing to name but one with the BTL-A4 Modification card.

My friend has used this card to attack two different Targets !

to which I have explained Eeerrrr NO.

Declare Target rule states TARGET not TARGET'S.

Meaning one and no more.

Am I right ?

to me this is what the Rules say....isn't it ?

Also, are their any modification cards out there that will allow a ship to attack MORE than one TARGET ?

Thank you all.

Barry

The Y-wing with BTL-A4 upgrade and a turret can attack two separate targets provided they are in the primary firing arc. You have to declare a target twice: once with the primary and once with the turret. This is why the stress-bot only gives two stress with the TLT. The second TLT attack has to be on the same target as the first TLT attack.

If you HAD to shoot at the same target, declaring it only once, you'd only deal one stress token per attack.

Each attack declares target separately unless it specifically says otherwise - of the many ways to attack multiple times, the only ones which do say otherwise currently are Cluster Missiles and Twin Laser Turrets.

Every other way of making multiple attacks (BTLA4 title, Phantom title, Corran Horn, TIE/D title, Gunner/Luke Skywalker) has no restrictions on the second target, and can target anyone legal within range.

This is an exception to the normal rules about declaring targets, but this is a game where EVERYTHING is exceptions to the normal rules.

Ships with Gunner may attack a second, different, target. Same with IGb (and titled 88's). BTL Y-Wings can as well. Dengar may make his ability attack on a different target than his primary attack.

HOWEVER....... The TLT and Cluster Missiles, while they shoot twice, must attack the same target. If you happen to kill that target with your first shot, you do NOT get to target something else for your second shot.

Brilliant

Thank-you very much for clarification on the rules guys.

I am wrong and nice to know why

....still learning

Thank you all very much.
