Tie Fighter Anima

By ozmodon, in X-Wing

Take a look on YouTube for, Tie Fighter - short film, if you haven't already . I think it has the feel of this game. It shows the aces in action..

I assume you mean this?

And yeah, it's pretty much the best thing ever. But if you play X-Wing and somehow didn't know about this already...

Yes, its awesome. Love the Tie Bomber unloading the cluster missiles.

Ordnance FTW!

OtaKing's style doesn't really work well for animating people, but for machinery it's gorgeous. Love the shots of the TIEs' internal elements.

I disagree; he has a very, VERY 1980s aesthetic for animation that carries through and makes me hunger for anime like the original Macross and Bubblegum Crisis. If it's a bit choppy on people it's because inbetweening mistakes (the process of smoothing animation so that transitions from cel to cel are less obvious) are clearer when it comes to people than machines because of the uncanny valley effect.

In other words, if he had a real budget you wouldn't notice a **** thing because inbetweeners would do their job, but because it's a fandone thing you notice the problems on the people and not the mecha, despite the mistakes being there on both.

I just want those cluster missiles

I just want Disney to give this guy a team and make a series out of it.

I want those Imperial pilots.

I want those Imperial pilots.

For all we know we already have them.

Every time I think of Redline, I think of the redhead girl, I know it's a Punisher, but after maneuvers like that, I'm sure she got promoted.

Unfortunately, Redline is definitely gendered male.

I don't think Deathrain or Deathfire are gendered. Could just be a Gamma Vet, though.

Man, those cluster missiles are SOOOO Robotech-y. I'm definitely gonna get that Robotech swoosh noise and set up a soundboard to play it on my phone when I launch clusters. Would that get annoying after a while?

This short film get's dug out so often in a while, it really needs a sticky at the top of the forum....! ;)

Imagine playing out that open Joust in the game.

I'm not an anime fan but I even love this!

I saw this a while back. Growing up as a fan of bother Robotech and Star Wars, I definitely approve. Sure, it's "over the top", but sometimes that's ok.

I want those Imperial pilots.

What abilities they would have?

Female TIE Bomber pilot (I know they have names/bios somewhere - will search later):

- can hold target lock for more than one ship?

- ignores obstacles?

TIE Fighter pilot:

- ignores critical hits?

TIE Interceptor pilot:

- hits pretty hard?

Admiral crew:

?

The Macross/Robotech influence definitely doesn't fit the Star Wars aesthetic at times (the TIE Bomber missile scene is probably the most egregious violator), but it's hard not to enjoy this.

The soundtrack is what bothers me.

But the animation is really, really great.

You're right, the Rebels didn't get any plot armor.

Heh, this has also struck me as so incredibly fluff-apropos.

I'd say part of the the fleet scattering immediately after Hoth. Not that that's set in stone but being hunted by the Arakyd; the ad hoc nature of the little fleet (task force?), and the absence of A- and B-Wings all make me think ESB-ish.

The little touches in the story tickle me;

The flight group aiming to splash the shields on the Interdictor, get it to back off enough for the capitals to find the edge of the grav cone. (Shame the captain uses... sensor jammers perhaps?)

The ISD captain electing to have fire control ionize the transport. Give Imperial Intelligence some prisoners to play with.

And yes, the cockpit view is far and away my favorite thing, the close up of the Twin Ion's being second.

Yah, the Interceptor vet needs something for a damage boost to simulate that quad linked burst.

Found the character sheets for the pilots here:

Would use those as a basis for pilot abilities.

Got it!

(I will be back... with gifts)

Its one and only crime is the incorrect details put into the internal systems. Tie ion engines dont have moving parts, also it doesnt fit with what is shown in sw complete vehicles. I guess you could say they are all elite squadrons flying moded ties, that would be tbe only way to justify the errors made in the movie.

Interceptors already hit really hard. The can on hit / beam kill shielded B-Wings. And their shields can tank the same laser canons that vaporize iron meteorites, used by Star Destroyers. They are also shown easy ripping capital ships to shreds with a single volley.

Still better than anything Lucas or Disney has produced in the last five years.
