Ambient Background Music For Full Immersion?

By robertpolson, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I am planning to use http://tabletopaudio.comand http://environment.ambient-mixer.com for future campaign nights.

Basic plan:

1. No phone or technology at the table

2. Full focus for about 90 minutes and then take a 20 minute break

3. Ambient music to increase the immersion into the experience

Has anyone used any of ambient sound sites listed above or soundtracks to improve their gaming experience? If you did, which specific background sounds have you used and for which missions?

I often use the Star Wars soundtracks for Imperial Assault and Rebellion. How can you go wrong with John Williams?

Ya honestly the best music is the Star Wars soundtrack, so much to draw on. Play the opening theme while you read the flavour text (or make a scrolling screen) and then let it shuffle from there.

Nothing beats having the cantina music show up as you make a horrible roll. Just seems to fit.

Sorestro makes some badass tracks for his painting videos.

The main challenge that I see with this setup is that shuffle can lead to cantina music during the main battle of the mission :)

I have a Star Wars playlist that's everything BUT source music (Cantina Band, etc) and the main title (it's too disruptive mid-story).

Star wars Soundtrack playlist on spotify. link it to my PS4 in the front room, i control it with my phone so i can surprise them with events and accompany it with music. i also use my TV to show the scrolling imperial Assault opening text.

I have some sounds of blaster fire and explosions that i put on during some of the combats, and i have a darth vader voice changer chest piece with vader quotes and his breathing. plus the voice changer makes me sound like a robot, so i use that for ig88's voice.

but sometimes worry about all that stuff becomes a hassle and time consuming. so mostly it is just imagination

I play the Star Wars soundtrack station on Pandora. It mixes in Batman, Pirates of the Caribbean, Carmina Burana, Ride of the Valkyries, etc. It usually is all high-energy action tracks, not the slower stuff, and works really well.

The Batman Beyond soundtrack is pretty great too.

These are some great soundtrack ideas. Thank you.

Yeah, I have the OT and TFA soundtracks on a thumb drive that I play on random on my TV while we play. I like to start off with the opening crawl, but I don't have more than one version of it. I also took out the Cantina theme and a few other specific and distracting tracks, and it seems to work well.
