Return to Hoth Campaign Mission: One Step Behind Question

By Ailer, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Hey folks,

My group is about to do the mission "One Step Behind" and I have an important rules question.

Aside from the green deployment points, there is a yellow, blue and red deployment point. When do these get activated? It is not specified in the rules. Is it the case that they get activated when the corresponding console color gets claimed?

A follow up question: I see only one patrol droid active at the start of the mission and the rules say that I get to add 1 additional one when 2 consoles is claimed. Does that mean I only get a max of 2 patrol droids? Where I can put them depends on the answer to the previous question above.

Only green deployment points are active at the beginning of a mission. (See the second page of the core campaign guide.) Other deployment points become active only when a mission event explicitly tells so. A one-time deployment from an event to an inactive deployment point does not make the deployment point active automatically.

In this mission the blue, red and yellow deployment points are used in the event Within the Facility. (the deployment point nearest the opened door) They never become active deployment points for optional deployments.

For patrol droid, see mission setup. You reserve another token at the mission setup and can place it later from a mission rule. (Yes, seems max 2.)

Thanks Albert! Your answer makes sense.

I wonder why they made them different colors; wouldn't it be more clear to make them all red and then just say "deploy to the nearest red point"?

Potentially the mission has changed during alpha and/or beta playtesting. Perhaps three events have been merged into one. Or the designers only have maximum of two deployment points of the non-green colors. :D

Do patrol droids have movement abilities?

Patrol droids are tokens. Their movement is limited to what the mission rules say. See the rules 3-5 from the mission briefing.

As a followup, are deployment points always placed on the board at the beginning of the game? So the Rebels know something might come from there, or they might have to go there? Or are they revealed when used or active? Or are they never placed?

The locations of deployment points is hidden information. Green points are active at the beginning of the mission. When deployment points are activated and disabled, that is open information, because the mission events / rules are read aloud.

The rebels can deduce where the points are from the deployed figures. Unless the deployed figure is Large, or there is a figure on the deployment point you use, the rebels will know the exact space from the first figure you place during reinforcement or deployment.

but, of course, Rebels will never know if you have yet another green deployment point that you just have not used before...

it can have meaningful psychological impact on them
