how are you doing with Mist Hunter?

By Scythean, in X-Wing

since the release of this cool little ship I have been wondering how everyone is doing with it? how are you playing Mist Hunter? who are you running Mist Hunter with?

I myself am more than likely going to get this ship as a Father's day gift. The ship has me interested in it. it looks like a ship that will probably take some finesse to get the most out of it.... even thought about a list using Mist Hunter equipped with tractor beam of course, with the Andrasta firespray. with the idea of having bombs deployed just to let Mist Hunter tractor beam an enemy ship into a bomb/mine.....sounds fun in theory.

It's a pretty ship, but I tend to find it a touch too fragile.

Still either named pilot with the other as crew, the title, and an EPT of some sort is a solid start to a list. Just don't spend too much on it, it has a very limited lifespan.

VI, dengar title zuckuss is about all I'd use it for

solid glass-cannon, lots of glass and cannon

Ps 9 essential not because it's an arc-dodger but because you want to shoot before being summarily obliterated

with t-beams, keep it simple. The title's really mostly for b-roll, and you'll fire t-beams once per game at most. That one shot, though, can win you the game

usually made at range 3 (Deny range bonus) and when enemy is around obstacles, upon which you can throw them and completely ruin an opponent's game plan

don't bother getting fancy with bombs, you can just drop those right on the enemy

It's almost never worth using the tractor beam unless a significant proportion of your list is shooting after you, and even then it's dubious.

no there are plenty of times when it's worthwhile (against small ships; -1 agi is worth very little next to the repositioning option. against large, just kill them asap)

range 3 is already one of them, since you're not likely to hit through 4 modified ace greens anyway

the sheer tactical flexibility of the beam make it often far more worthwhile than just a shot, especially at PS 9 when you can fling enemies out of shots they would've otherwise had or into compromising positions that take them out of the game for a few rounds

those opportunities usually come once per game, but if you land them you basically win

I run it with 4-LOM, FCS, and VI all the time. I generally don't play with the title as the focus/target lock combo with 4 attack dice at range 2-3 (5 at range 1) I want to deal as much damage each shot as I can.

My favorite scum list using a Mist Hunter:

Dengar (5)

Adaptability

Rec Spec

R4 Agromech

Punishing one

Zuckuss (32)

VI

4-LOM

FCS

N'dru (18)

VI

Hmm.. Nice pictures attached, but I wonder why you tractor beamed Vader out of Xizor's and his guards firing arc? Wouldn't be better to boost him foward, make him agi2 and severely damage him with the rest of squad? ;)

ner if I thought I could kill it, I'd've just opened fire with zuckuss normally (course, obstructed range 3 v mods I decided it probably wouldn't do anything knowing my luck and opted for t-beams to go against 4 dice instead of 5)

z-95s are absolute garbage for dealing damage at any range (they're literally just there for feedbacks) and I wouldn't trust them to be able to hurt a newborn baby with their primaries

I do trust asteroids to take a stressed advance out of the game for at least two turns, leaving the squad free to focus on the actual threat (inquisitor)

that was the only time I fired t-beams all game, but it took the advance out of the game for 3 turns and made the rest of the squad very easy pickings for Zuckuss

I love the Mist Hunter! Played in a 15-person tournament last weekend with a 4-ship scum build. Ruthless Freelancer + Zuckuss is a brutal combo, and I find the ship anything but fragile when it's only one amongst a number of threats. Ended up making it into the top 4 cut for the first time ever after someone dropped, and went on to win the whole thing!

Here's the full list:

Summer Tournament (100)

Palob Godalhi (26) - HWK-290

Adaptability (0), Twin Laser Turret (6)

Ruthless Freelancer (24) - G-1A Starfighter

Zuckuss (1)

Contracted Scout (35) - JumpMaster 5000

Deadeye (1), Plasma Torpedoes (3), Extra Munitions (2), 4-LOM (1), Overclocked R4 (1), Feedback Array (2), Guidance Chips (0)

Black Sun Soldier (15) - Z-95 Headhunter

Feedback Array (2)

Hmm.. Nice pictures attached, but I wonder why you tractor beamed Vader out of Xizor's and his guards firing arc? Wouldn't be better to boost him foward into rng1, make him agi2 and severely damage him with the rest of squad? ;)

Giving Vader a range 1 shot on his lock target is a terrible idea (assuming he's shooting after Zuckuss) whereas causing him to skip his actions next round (and maybe skip shooting too if you can block him) is brilliant.

If he's already shot, yeah, I'd take the range 1 for Xizor and friends.

Taking Xizor's ability into consideration (one crit goes elsewhere ;) ) Vader rng1 is not so scary. Btw, nice list (Xizor, Zuckuss and 2 Z95). Maybe not Tier 1 but I bet it's fun to play.

tier 1 zuckuss? unfortunately no such thing. there is only 3 uboats

zuckuss, master of disguise

2nd Place in summer tournament, 3rd place in SC.

I use Zuckuss, hawk and a Manaroo.

thanks for the feedback. Sounds like Mist Hunter is proving to be a formidable ship as long as you don't get too distracted with the allure of wanting to use the tractor beam all the time.

It's more of a situational tool...if you see an opportunity to use it to ruin an opponents best laid plans then use it....not bad.

how does moving around the board fair with all the red on the Mist Hunter movement dial? I have heard some people compare it to feeling like a B-wing or a Y-wing.

zuckuss, master of disguise

yes the three JM-5K's I believe this is becoming the new meta for Scum players...and with good reason. I have watched several YouTube videos with the use of three JM-5K's and it's pretty brutal.

Zuckuss is a Beast. Steve Dodd has won Stele Open 2016 with list Zuckuss + 2 Torpedo Scouts, and since then Zuckuss is quite often seen in top regional lists.

On YouTube channel SteleTV you can watch some matches featuring Steve's Zuckuss with Paul Heaver commentary :)

Redish dial is not an issue when you play him properly: as a slow approaching heavy hitting powerful cannon, not some arc doger.

How about Cloak, anybody uses that? I have a lot of fun with that on small scum ships.

I've been running Zuckuss with VI, FCS, Gunner, and title, Kavil with VI, bomb load out, proton bombs, dorsal turret, extra munitions, genius, and engine upgrade and a Y-wing with TLT. it's not winning any store championships but it's comical to see Zuckuss bring the Ruckuss and then catch people with a Proton bomb. Blowing a two hull ship off the board with a single crit can be priceless, but Zuckuss makes it happen because people are worried about him dropping a hammer on them so they don't quite worry with Kavil.

I'm enjoying this build:

4-LOM

- Push the Limit

- Intelligence Agent

- Mist Hunter

- Tractor Beam

It's a little pricy, but absolutely amazing against imperial aces unless you screw up the initial approach. As soon as you have Fel or the Inquisitor doing greens to clear stress and get away, you have them pinned down. It is very difficult for them to move in a way that lets them clear stress, avoid your arc, get you in their, get offensive modifiers and avoid range 1 at the same time. Their greens are reasonably predictable, and if you miss a bit you can always roll (after checking their dials) to force a block or get a shot at their rear. Really, any PTL user should fear this guy.

He's vulnerable to focus fire, but against low PS generics he can sort of take on the role of arc dodger, and against aces he is slippery enough to avoid at least one of them, provided he can get close enough.

There have been some people using Attani Mindlink on the Mist Hunter with some other ships with Mindlink. You can get FCS and a free Focus from someone else. It allows you to use the Barrel Roll more often for repositioning. Using 4-LOM as pilot will allow you to shed any stress you get from someone else, too.

The crew are also great crew cards to have. Useful in many different builds.

I used the Mist Hunter in Mission 1 vs. Senator's Shuttle and it was a beast.

Concurring with Fickle: VI, Dengar, Mist Hunter on Zuckuss is a fantastic build that offers some Scum teeth against other Aces. Being able to Barrel Roll after Corran, Poe, Carnor, or the Inquisitor is a huge boon when you're running generics for the rest of your list (torpedo boats or what have you).

As much as I love this ship, I haven't had the opportunity to fly it much because I've been loving packing Zuckuss and 4LOM in together on a Hound's Tooth for some serious anti-agility punishment. I briefly flew Zuckuss and Talonbane together as a mean 10-red dice list (which may come back with Fenn Rau hunting after that 15 red dice list) but I found that the extra agility Zuckuss hands out is really prone to kicking off a string of very favorable agility rolls for my opponents.

I have been considering the idea of a 4LOM Stress Delivery Service, with advanced sensors engine upgrade (and adaptability-) to create a blocker/stress output fightin machine, but it ends up becoming severely overcosted for the role.

For now though, those two jokers are just sittin' pretty causing trouble with Moralo Eval's HLC

I have had really good success with Mindlink on 4-LOM. He's pretty cheap, and his stress giving ability is fantastic vs aces. Double actions and stress passing makes him a cheap and solid ship for 28-30 points.

I've run Zuckuss with Mindlink, Title, Baffle and 4-LOM crew paired with Manaroo. Passing him a TL + Extra focus allows him to evade/barrel roll each turn to mitigate some damage. You can then lock down an opponents token with 4-LOM and fire 4/5 dice fully modified. Good fun and **** cheap for what it can do.

The ship has not let me down a single time, Zuckuss, VI, Gunner, FCS, and the Title are my preferred loadout, though sometimes I might switch out VI for Expose and add an experimental interface with a cloaking device.

I use 4-LOM with the title, Tractor Beam, Cloaking Device, Stygium Particle Accelerator, Advanced Sensors and Outlaw Tech, Mindlinked with Guri and Ka'ato. The Sensors and the Tech are mostly for the Mindlink synergy. I like to use the Tractor Beam to either pull ships in for better shots for Guri and Ka'ato, or to get them in range for 4-LOM to hand them his stress token at the end of the round. And even if I never use the Tractor Beam, having the ability to barrel roll is pretty **** useful.
