Woops, play area issue

Or, you know you could just play on the table and not worry about 2-freaking-inches. A lot of my games have been on 5'x4' playing surfaces.

Personally, I don't like doing that. Not because it isn't "regulation size," but because it feels so crowded. I don't even like playing on a 6' x 3'. I have an old 6' x 4' table I used for WHFB and 40k which I love, because you throw down a pair of 3' x 3' mats, and you have 6" to place all of your cards, tokens, dice and tools.

That is certainly ideal, but sometimes you just have to deal with what you have. loosing a couple inches (or a foot) isn't going to radically change game play. Depending on how the room is arranged you even set up some TV trays to hold all the cards and stuff and keep the play area clear.

Honestly, if you're only playing at home then just play on the table, the reduction in size will almost certainly not affect the game balance.

But if you're looking for a regulation sized table, then here's one I made for X Wing, but the principle is the same for an Armada one:

quick update: I went with 2 3x4 MDF plywood boards. These things are heavier than I thought! I made a test on my table and the 4' might be a bit too wide, I'm afraid it might make the game uncomfortable to play. Worst case scenario, I'll ask a friend with a portable electric saw to come over and we'll saw the excess foot.

Well, oftentimes, it makes it easier...

Keep it on. Its a great place to put cards. OR, if Reaching really is an issue (possibly due to table height):

Saw 6" off each, and make them Staggered when they join - mark the Extra 6" as an area to keep Cards and Upgrades and such then. That way each player has a 3x0.5 area for cards, but the other half of their table edge is game edge as well...
