Custom Card League: VOTE on custom pilots now!

Welcome to the vote for custom pilots to introduce into the custom card league's vassal extension!


The top fifteen pilots from this vote will be implemented in the vassal extension, after a second-round vote in which modified versions of the fifteen selected pilots will be accepted as submissions and subsequently voted on. Each custom ship (the assault gunboat, V-wing, SoroSuub 3000, and TIE Avenger) will have two guaranteed custom pilots each from the total fifteen, to ensure they are fully realized in the extension.


Text-only submissions, if they advance to the next round of voting, will have cards made for them by myself if necessary.


You are of course free to make your vote in whatever way you please, but I suggest you vote based on these criteria, in the following order:


1: Flavor- does the pilot add something new to the X-wing miniatures game, in terms of the star wars universe and game mechanics?


2: In-game balance: Does the pilot seem balanced? Keep in mind that there will be an opportunity to modify the entries that advance to the next round of voting.



Each submission includes any design notes provided (sometimes informally). I sometimes include information I think is necessary to understand the submission, but this is relatively rare.


Enjoy and tell your friends about the vote and the league! The more votes we get, the better. Voting ends midnight (11:59pm EST) June 16.


Expect to see polls open for custom upgrade submissions later on this week. There are so many of them that I didn't want to wait for that form to be ready before I opened up the pilots to voting. Big thanks to everyone who helped get the submissions ready for the vote; this would have taken much longer without your help.


(And make sure to vote to give Horton Salm the EPT he deserves!)

Just curious how do you guys make the cards. Is there a template or a sight you use? I have a couple custum cards i use on table. But the cards are pretty poor quality (I'm pretty bad at photoshop) any help is appreciated.

Look up strange eons; that's the tool i use to make my cards. It's a free download and has a preset x-wing module. Very easy to use.

Good stuff, guys! Pretty similar to last time, about 50/50 on the up/down votes. Generally, you got down-voted if the ability seemed way too strong or if the wording was way off (like not specifying a timing window).

I noticed this too. Even though we are able to edit the cards after the vote, it seems you pretty much shoot yourself in the foot if it's not FFG level wording on the card.

There were at least one kr two that i upvoted that i didnt love the wording but figured it could be fixed later. I did downbote for stuff i thought was too overpowered or didnt fit

Hey, presentation matters. I'd not be confident in any person's capacity to create a balanced ability if they're not capable of either wording themselves well, or simply didn't specify the ability enough for it to be functional. That, and if the abilities just seemed excessively powerful to the point of breaking the game. There were like, 15 pilots in there that were just stupid, STUPID strong. Nobody wants to play against something that's so good it's an insta-choose.

As far as wording, if its just not as clear as it vould be but the intention is obvious and its mot overpowered, one can always submit a cleaner version in the second round

Yeah, definitely up-voted a couple that needed slight clarification or cleaner wording. Then there were those that were unplayable without further instruction from the creator.

I also think, as I mentioned in the other thread, that if your cards art style is out of the ordinary, voters look at the card a bit sideways and it effects their thoughts on the cards.

I'm kind of obsessively checking my stuff. One of my pilots is looking really, REALLY good right now. I guess i wish i had made the other one a bit better now, though...

I wish the view previous results option showed the images too. I don't remember all the custom pilots and abilities just based on the names to see which are doing well :P. Guess I'll hafta go "edit" my responses to see which were which while I look at the results :P

You can look at the google doc. Have to scroll through some upgrades, but they are in order.

Especially on a pilot I don't plan to use regardless (would he really see THAT much more play if he had an EPT than he does now?)

So, like... what happens if the voted in ships dont actually get any of the proposed pilots in the top 15? Shouldnt it be, like the top 2 rated pilots for that ship then?
