Red Ace + EPT Bot + adapability + Black1 title

By Panic 217, in X-Wing Rules Questions

In the above, say this is in your list as is, Black 1 title says your PS needs to be PS7> so if in a setting (whomever would choose to run it would be probably a crazy person but bear with me) where lets say you decide to adaptability down (could you?) or would you be locked in at adapt up in a tournament setting?

No, this does not work. Adaptability work only after the place your ship phase of the game. It is not like Veteran Instinct, where it modify you pilote skill value at build time.

From the FAQ:
Ships equipped with Adaptability do not alter their pilot skill until they are placed in the play area during setup. For example, a Green Squadron Pilot equipped with Adaptability would be placed in the play area during setup at pilot skill 3. As soon as it is placed, it may choose to raise its pilot skill to 4 or lower it to 2.

Sounds to me like you'd actually be able to do this. Operating on the same logic that you don't lose access to now-unequippable cards if Boba Fett crew removes a title that provides access to new equipment slots, it's hypothetically possible to equip adaptability on a title-equipped PS7 T-70 and then adaptability down to 6 at the start of the match, specifically because the FAQ specifies that you declare how adaptability activates during setup and not when you are equipping cards.

Edited for readability, and to note that it might be worth perusing the rulebook in regards to where equipping your list comes into play, though it'd still be entirely before you're dropping ships.

When you construct your squadrons you should just ignore Adaptability when it comes to PS requiring effects.

Adaptability has no effect until setup though. It can't be used to meet PS requirements during squad building.

Oh, I misread - the other way around it certainly wouldn't work. I thought we were talking about bringing the title on a PS7 -> PS6, not vice versa. It's a one-way road :P

Wait a sec, he does want to adaptability down. What are you jokers talking about?

Just ignore adaptability for meeting build requirements. If you can't equip something without the PS modification from adaptability you can't equip it. If you can equip it without adaptability you can still take it even with adaptability.

You're all turned around, man. That's what I said!

If Red Ace were PS 7, you could equip Black One and Adaptability (with the EPT droid) and then you could Adaptability down in actual play. But he's not, he's PS 6, so you can't equip Black One on him without VI.

Call it a house rule and be done with it (that you are lowering the requirement for the Black One to PS 6). What happens when Adaptability hits the table is a different matter and doesn't affect card requirements that involve Pilot Skill.

Then consider this hostile agreement.
