I admit that I'm annoyed the book contains zero guidelines for what's required and what happens in the fiction when a character changes careers. Not even a "The change can be as subtle or as drastic as you like! It doesn't have to correspond with a change in employment! It can happen overnight or over the course of weeks, whichever fits your game and sensibilities!" I assume that's the intention: mechanically there are no barriers to career change but species and having sufficient advances, so don't let your imagination get in the way of a good game.
This especially trips up on the basic careers with the Wizard or Priest keywords/traits.
Common sense: The Initiate and Apprentice Wizard careers have "special" entry requirements. They represent folks with inborn ability who have spent years cloistered in an appropriate facility. People who hide their magical ability until later in life (say, after they become adventurers) are "too old to begin the training," and will be destroyed rather than enrolled. So you can only switch to those careers if you started with them.
Rules as written: You can change to any career you meet the explicit requirements for.
If there's a page that mentions how Initiate and Apprentice Wizard are special in this regard, I ran right over it. If there isn't, that seems like a good clarification for the FAQ. I mean, I'm not confused, but it's confusing.
Sorry if this has been discussed previously: the results page for the search function gives me links that go nowhere. I did scan back ten pages in the archives...
